NY Times tackles Wii's tie-in ratio
Apr 21st 2008 5:26PM (Joystiq Nintendo)I just don't get how they are getting this attach rate. I mean I know how they get it (software divided by consoles).
I own 19 games for the Wii. They are about evenly split between 1st/3rd party.
Is there really that small of a minority that actually buys Wii games?
NYTimes looks at Wii's software sales problem
Apr 21st 2008 12:52PM (Joystiq)I OWN 19 different games for my Wii...not including Virtual Console. Am I in that small of a minority? The other people I know that own a Wii have 5-10 games at least.
What gives?
Wii Warm Up: Bridging the gap
Apr 21st 2008 12:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)I am not sure where I fall in the spectrum of Hardcore to Casual. I love to play, and do so daily, but it may be for 15-20 minutes or it may be for 2 hours. I play games from most genres.
I think that Nintendo has returned to the NES days...they are marketing gaming to EVERYONE. They are competing against TV, Movies and Music. Certainly Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii will help keep the 'new gamer' audience satiated.
I am perfectly OK with the harder levels on games now to cater to my hardcore side, and still enjoying the simple pleasures that come from petting my Nintendog or training my brain or power sliding out of a corner.
An Epic diss
Apr 21st 2008 10:36AM (Joystiq Nintendo)BUT...so do I. I think that Epic should focus on what they do 'best' make the same game with better graphics every few years. Maybe they should try to do something different, and see how easy it is (it's not actually).
While my Wii has gone a week or 2 between play times, it has never been longer than that. Sound like Mr. Capps needs to lighten up and enjoy not shooting things.
Wii Warm Up: On track
Apr 17th 2008 10:24AM (Joystiq Nintendo)At 1st it was always a race to get Toad or Toadette, but later (like when we play new...3 years later) we all have a set that we like the best. Me...I go back and forth between the Red Koopa w/Toadette, and Peach w/Luigi. I also have a soft spot for a Waluigi/Bowser Jr. as a team (you just can't beat the craziness that happens when you are in Baby Park and the GIANT shells that are Bowser/Bowser Jr.s are going EVERYWHERE).
Fanswag: Mario Kart Extravaganza
Apr 17th 2008 10:17AM (Joystiq Nintendo)Tomorrow it might be Luigi's Mansion (MK:DS), or Waluigi Stadium (MK:DD).
Wii Warm Up: The spice of life
Apr 14th 2008 6:20PM (Joystiq Nintendo)I gotta say that I am in agreement with a couple of people here...in that I just don't get Super Smash Brothers. I bought Melee on the 'Cube and played a bit and thought it was OK. SO...I bought into the hype and picked up Brawl. I do like the single player better than Melee, but I still am not getting it.
As far as non Nintendo franchises...I just don't get the hype over the Halo, Tony Hawk or GTA series.
PLEASE NOTE - I am not trying to start any kind of flame war...just voicing my opinion.
Famitsu publisher thinks new DS will be shown at E3
Apr 11th 2008 2:22PM (Joystiq)My desires for a new DS design are as follows: larger (and brighter) screens, a slightly larger side to side footprint to allow for cramp free playing for those of us with larger hands, and better speakers.
I have my 'Platinum' Feb 2005 DS Phat, and my only complaint about it is that the paint is starting to wear off around all of the buttons...but the DS Lites solved that issue by using plastics that are colored all the way through.
It has been though a lot in its 3+ years with me. It has been dropped a couple of times and is all scuffed up, but it still rocks!
Wii Warm Up: Broken
Apr 7th 2008 11:54AM (Joystiq Nintendo)I DO use the strap, but it really depends on the game...SMG/NMH/MP3, I use the strap. Wii Menu/Everybody Votes/Check Mii Out channels...no straps.
I mainly use the strap to keep the loose end from flying around and 'whipping' my arm.
BUT...anyone who is new to the Wii, I make them use the strap their entire play time.
Pachter: Shortages coming to an end later this year
Mar 31st 2008 5:45PM (Joystiq Nintendo)It did not come off as snarky in the least. I just wanted to let you know that this guy is real. Not that I agree with everything I have read of his...
