Analysis: GameSetWatch looks at the strength of SCEA IP

Jun 30th 2009 12:56AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I'm with Paul way up there... when you look at that list, over half the titles listed are new IPs this generation AND have done quite well in sales and reviews. Sure, Sony keeps up, through its partners and in-house studios, with its already established series like God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear Solid and a few others. But they still push new IPs that have been both exclusive AND great.

When you look at those other exclusives, that Joystiq mentioned, they're already established series that have been around for many, many years. And, Nintendo, along with Microsoft, continue to milk sequel after sequel.

This is why I've stuck with Sony, though. They have enough new to go with their old. When you look at Nintendo and Microsoft, how many exclusive IPs have they come out with this gen that have also been successful and/or good? Not many from Nintendo... and I can really only name Gears of War, off the top of my head, for Microsoft (Kameo, Blue Dragon, Too Human... fail, fail, fail).

Burnout Paradise experts awarded with free Diamond P12

Isn't this an "old news is old" type thing? Crash TV told about this just a week after the game came out, many new the day of Big Surf Island's release... yet we get a news story on it over two weeks later, lol.

Either way, for 500/500 online challenges done, its kind of a meh reward. They should have had a unique model for this unlockable car and nearly max stats, or something similar. Not just a paint job for a car most of us have 2-4 copies of, now.

I didn't mean you, ace. I was referring to GeneralM... c'mon, now. Obvious troll is obviously not you. =p

Famitsu unveils Tales of Vesperia PS3 bonus content

Wow. Never encountered a super troll before... can't say that now that I've gotten a reply to my comment from GeneralM. Trolls: The cause of my laughter, the solution to my boredom.

Famitsu unveils Tales of Vesperia PS3 bonus content

Jun 23rd 2009 9:27PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I must say, even though the 360 gets games earlier, I'm loving this growing trend of the PS3 getting a release later on with exclusive content... BioShock, Alone in the Dark, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Tales of Vesperia and I'm sure a few more.

360 may get it first, but the PS3 seems to get better versions... or just ones with more content.

Joystiq turns 5, you get the presents! Win inFamous & Prototype on PS3

Jun 21st 2009 8:19AM (Joystiq)
I started reading it near the time I first got my PS3 in November 2007 and it pretty much converted me from going to GameSpot every now and again, to going to Joystiq every single day for news. Its also nice to click over to separate system's news articles so easily, here.

Anyway, here's to 5 MORE years, guys! Keep up the great work.

Sony: Motion Control in development since the days of EyeToy

Jun 17th 2009 3:39PM (Joystiq)
At least they're not like Microsoft, complimenting Nintendo for pursuing motion controls (circa 2006), then copying AND bashing all in a single conference during Project Natal's live demonstration. Or, claiming to have the Avatars in development long before the Miis, lol.

But anyway, I guess imitation is the best form of flattery. At any rate, its not like, OMG-all-of-a-sudden-out-of-nowhere Sony's introducing gimmicky motion controls due to Nintendo... the sixaxis WAS sorta, y'know... already present, so its sort of an evolution of that (plus they debuted with 1:1 controls, impressive, since Nintendo is still working on it, but won't get it), while MS is just coming out of left field with it.

Sucker Punch explains why it remains PS3 exclusive

Jun 11th 2009 2:38PM (Joystiq)
This is why I love Sucker Punch, Insomniac and Naughty Dog... even Kojima, not because they side with Sony, but they're companies that build games for a specific system from the ground up, they take advantage of the hardware set before them and don't build games just for as wide an audience as humanly possible.

Sure, they want to make their money... but these companies have always put their all into their work, and their work before all. Hence their final products always selling hundreds of thousands of units and always being of a very high calibur.

Joe Madureira kicks fans of Battle Chasers in the heart via Darksiders

Jun 10th 2009 4:57PM (Joystiq)
I always admired his work, but never Joe MAD's work ethic which was shotty... it felt like he could never finish what he started (his own comic series Battle Chasers, the last game he worked on got canceled, etc.) and never really has a passion for what he does.

I mean, its almost like he works on something for a year or so, develops a fan base, then gets bored and moves onto something else, screwing over the aforementioned fan base.

Anyway, I hope his artwork is reflected well in the transition to a videogame. And, I agree Joystiq... it'd be nice if he'd bang out 2-5 issues and actually conclude the story - I loved the artwork, characters and plot.

PS3 version of Prototype features installation bug, annoying workaround

Jun 10th 2009 4:52PM (Joystiq)
Now, I understand why the Uncharted 2 Beta was included... so you can have it downloaded and installed prior to Prototype's release and delete it to get the game to work.
