I cannot see the purpose of that, other than pure show off on the "I can do it", mechanical/craft front (in that case, congratulations). Because seriously... it's not exactly slim or portable... I would actually like to have it side by side of a slim, but from the controller's size by the side of it on the video, doesn't seem like he reduced much if any out of it.
It runs on "wall power" as he stated, so that defeats the portability purpose even further. It doesn't have a keyboard... I mean, as someone on youtube said, he is just altering the very very very outer shell of the thing, in the practical way. He may have modded the interior to death, but there is really nothing new in there...

it was on pre-order, now it is canceled and i will hold back until enough reviews come out and i know for a fact that the game doesn't suck.

1) the ticker is turned off. AWESOME.

the argument of "delivering a full experience" kinda goes down when you announce that one variant is voided of functions common to the other versions....
