Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars walkthrough is very X-Commy

Mar 23rd 2011 2:17AM (Joystiq)
If I can't drag something's corpse back to my base for an autopsy and weapon research? Not X-COM enough.

Still, probably going to pick this up.

"...or with a more considerate approach..."

I think he meant considered. I don't think people are slowing down combat to be polite.

PlayStation Plus users get an exclusive space away from the crowds of Home

Dec 2nd 2010 10:33PM (Joystiq)
A crowded virtual space? Eesh.

It's the same thing you see with the rest of home - artificial scarcity. Board games you have to wait in line for, etc.

It reveals Sony's true intentions for Home: A testing ground where Sony can try to figure out how to introduce scarcity, one of the driving factors of price, into a future economy that eliminates it altogether; digital downloads.

It's the same thing that Gamestop is trying to figure out before we move away away from discs and what they attempt to do with collector's editions.

Marketing stunt?

More likely a development requirement. It's probably down for the same reason Greenhouse is - they're working on their tech.

@lksdrunner Sure - I can help to clear that up :)

Where a demo is a free sample of a game that lets you try certain aspects (sometimes out of context) what we're proposing is basically a "rental" system. So, you'd get the full "from the start" experience that is -the game-, not a watered down or sliced version. Does that make sense?

@GuardianLegend The idea of getting games to people as quickly as possible with the fewest obstacles to play with their friends as possible :)

InstantAction CEO: Game retail 'headed for a disaster'

@ouenwoof Having talked to Lou about this very thing, I can tell you that you are, in some respects, of the same mind. I know for a fact that we don't want to make "casual" games like Farmville and that we don't really want Farmville, as a game, to be the future of the industry.

What Lou -is- getting at is how Farmville's -distribution- has been interesting and effected perceptions of -publishing-. I think that makes sense? So rather than trying to say "Let's make every game like Farmvill because those games get played!" he's saying, "Let's find a way to drop great core games into a huge group of people and get them to play quickly!"

@LegendaryFluffy Funny you should mention that! We're planning on a rent-to-own service :) So, you'd be able to pay for a portion of the game, play for a portion of time/content and then buy the rest if you wanted to or not :)
