I'd have to say, Guardian Heroes on the late, great Sega Saturn. This Treasure-developed side scrolling beat-em-up had it all: RPG-lite stat upgrades, upgradable special moves with ability trees, gorgeous hand drawn artwork in that signature Treasure style, gimundous boss battles, and game play so finely tuned that it fairly squeaked. If you have a Saturn gathering dust somewhere, and a hankerin' for some truly original and addictive old-school game play, fire this one up.
Oh G4, how we love to hate thee. On one hand, it is nice that advertisers and programming networks acknowledge that gaming is important enough to devote an entire network to it. (Although, now the programming is more targetted toward some media wonk's definition of "the gamer demographic," rather than bona fide gamers, themselves.)
On the other hand, what wretched content! G4 is equivalent to a box of stale crackers to a frat boy with the munchies. There's nothing else in the kitchen, so you might as well eat it. Bah!
