An apology, and a note on hype

Sep 8th 2006 2:39PM (Joystiq)
Derbeste,

I hear what you're saying. I think I just wasn't a fit for Joystiq. I wanted my blogging to be fun and light. To add some life to the bland. Like I said, I think we were going in two different directions. It happens.

I'm glad you enjoyed some of my writing and I hope some others did here as well. I wrote for you guys. I tried to write to make your time here more enjoyable. Sadly, more times than not, that went at odds with others.

Thank you all for reading and responding to all this.

Thank you. I've been successful in my "real job" for more than two years now. So, like I said, I'll move on just fine.

I'm working on landing at another site, possibly, so you may see me sooner rather than later. Hopefully you guys will see me around even more. And, if you live in NYC, Philly or Boston, you can see me every week anyway.

I linked my Metro site now. I'm not sure why someone keeps trying to imperonate me. Sadly, there's no way to confirm to you all that this is indeed me. I guess you'll just have to tell by my writing style or what I say.

Anyway, yes, I was fired. Over nothing? I think so, but that's up for debate. I'll move on, and so will Joystiq. This is life.

Also, there were no ulterior motives behind my post. Honestly. I even discussed putting up a note to come back later with other staff and they were OK with it. I guess I'm just the fall guy here, the one to take the heat for this hype that was blown out of proportion from the second it went up.

I'm glad to see some of you appreciated what I brough. And, I assure you, you'll see me at other sites. As of now, I still write about games in my full-time gig and will be at all the important events. If you don't know, I'm the Tech Editor for Metro US (NYC, Boston, Philly.) I also have a gaming column that runs in my weekly section called "A Gamer's Life."

I thank you all for my experience here at Joystiq. Dealing with you guys, the readers, was my most pleasant experience, and I mean that, honestly.

To set the record straight. I didn't write this "suck my c--k" post people are talking about. Why would I ever say something like that? I'm not like that.

Yeah, I was fired for the over reaction. But, it's all good. I didn't like the direction Joystiq was headed, and I feel it was almost a mutual thing.

I don't know what you guys expect me to apologize for. All I wanted to do was let you know to come to Joystiq for the news. I know that alot of you read other sites, and all I wanted was to let you know you could come to Joystiq first for the news. That's all.

It wasn't meant to be an hype thing or bring more traffic. That kind of stuff just took on a life of its own. It was all really out of my control. I had no idea things would get blown so far out of proportion.

It was nice writing for you guys, and I'm sure you'll see me in other places.

Major next-gen console news coming tonight [update 1]

Kotaku broke the embargo, and so did the Austin paper. Believe me, my contacts will be alerted to this. I think it's a slip up by the Statesman, but an asshole move by Kotaku to break it on purpose just to have it a few minutes before us.

Well, at least we know how to write here at Joystiq.

Yeah, I don't know who was doing that gold coin thing, but I have since deleted the imposter's comment.

Now that we're this close, here's the final hint: It has to do with what is inside the Wii, and I don't mean any games.

Of course that pic is fake. Come on guys, Joystiq readers are smart enough to know that.
