Developers shouldn't get a cut of used game sales because they already got their cut from the original sale. If I build you a house and you pay me $500,000 for it. Then you decide to sell the house 10 years later should I get a cut of that sale? That's basically what you're trying to say should happen with video games.
I think in the 1,000+ hours I put into Diablo 3 I played maybe 5-10 offline. I never really saw this as a single player game, so it doesn't really bother me. I am slightly worried about the real money auction house, but I trust Blizzard will do it right. If they don't then their future games are no longer auto-buys. :)
Ganking/Killing heroes is still really important early on. You get a lot of gold for killing the heroes and a lot of experience. Plus...the time they spend respawning they are not gaining experience and you can gain a lot of it by killing creeps.
