The Bill Day giveaway (part 4) - Windows Vista Ultimate

Jun 27th 2008 7:35PM (Engadget)
The single piece of Microsoft software that I value the most is the remote desktop client. I am completely enamored of it, especially since I can download and use it on my older Win2K systems.

Strogg unite! Quake Wars Live Weekend

May 31st 2008 7:58PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I've been waiting for this game for ages. Bought it on day of release.

Firstly, it crashes my xbox frequently. I've never had a problem with my xbox (couple of month old falcon core elite). Xbox live is full of people who say they're getting the same problem.

When it did work, this game was horribly disappointing. Perhaps Halo and COD have raised the bar too high, but I failed to feel any real excitement playing.

I took this game back and exchanged it for a couple of older titles I missed first time round. Perhaps ET:QW will find a few homes thanks to the black hole GTA has torn in the release schedule.

Make up your own minds, but I urge you to try this game before buying.

ASUS' OCgear 8600 GT graphics dials-in the overclocking

May 29th 2007 7:32PM (Engadget)
It's entirely false to say that everyone who overclocks their card disregards lifespan. I overclock my card heavily -but only when gaming. The rest of the time it runs underclocked because the horsepower is simply redundant. I use the card to it's full potential AND achieve the best life possible when doing so.

ASUS' OCgear 8600 GT graphics dials-in the overclocking

May 29th 2007 1:11PM (Engadget)
Pedro; as a physicist I can tell you that for every 10* you increase a semiconductor by, you half it's lifespan. That 12*C over stock will probabbly reduce your cards life by 55-60% -possibly more depending upon any small GPU transistor defects.

When there are so many automated overclocking solutions that will overclock your card only when you need it, there really is no good reason to running permanently overclocked!

Averatec rolls out another: the 1579 11.1-inch ultraportable

@Ethan,

What kind of media are you using to require huge amounts of processor power?!?

C'mon, the price difference between, say, a 60GB device and a 120GB device isn't exactly huge even at retail, let alone OEM level. I can't believe you're complaining that they've specified a nice large chunk of storage!

"Near-limitless lexicon"? That's practically oxymoronic! I hope you intended the irony...

Also, "Bob Fossil" is the name of the Zoo manager in The Mighty Boosh, lol
