Ubisoft 'always on' DRM hated, hacked - circle of life continues

Apr 23rd 2010 3:01PM (Joystiq)
@Yaja

World of Goo, in my opinion, was a very good game and priced at $20 it is hardly a rip off. There is no justification for the piracy this game received. There is no justification for piracy period. Espessially in this case where they were willing to give people something that they wanted and they got screwed extra hard because of it.

Ubisoft 'always on' DRM hated, hacked - circle of life continues

Apr 23rd 2010 12:43PM (Joystiq)
I don't want to speak to DRM being good, bad, needed or evil, but I want to speak to the "You catch more flies with honey" comment. Not too long ago, a game company, as a show of good faith, stated publicly that their game would be DRM free. As a result, the game was pirated day and night until almost 90% of downloads were pirates.

Showing good faith, or catching flies with honey in this industry is the equivelent of petting a rabid dog. Sure, if you wear heavy gloves he won't bite through for a while, but you are just being naive if you think that wearing none will get you anything but a bleeding hand.

Modern Warfare 2 'Stimulus Package' DLC in stills

Yes, I can see how some people will consider this a high price point and I don't believe i will get it right away unless my freinds come back to it. However, I don't understand the switch to B:BC2 based on the $15 price point. I have MW2, I don't yet have B:BC2, but if it came down to it why would I spend an additional $60 for B:BC2 and not $15 to play a game that own? I'm just confused by this logic and I am seeing it everywhere.

Interview: Spoiling Heavy Rain with David Cage

Archon,

I can follow the logic about the blackouts. I can stretch the origami figure in his hand to fit. I can even stretch it just a little bit farther to say its ok that it was a dog (Scott's Brothers favorite), but you cannot sit/stand/lay there and say that its just a coicedence that he woke up right next to the construction yard where Scott's brother was killed, when no one in the world has the knowledge that the origami killer's brother died there setting off the murders. They had me at blackouts and unexplained origami in his hand, but they lost me when they started pointing with all their might at Ethan saying "HIM, HIM NO ONE ELSE IS HERE, LOOK AT HIM." Worlds worst magican :)

GDC 2010: EEDAR on Achievements, user behavior

Yes sir, I got the acheivement for only firing one bullet (at the lock), but I think that is more a testament to how good the gravity gun is as I was totally willing just to fling random objects around the place. Now if it was just using the crowbar I would have passed.

Ubisoft updates PC DRM, denies rumored cracks

Mar 4th 2010 1:58PM (Joystiq)
Voting with your wallets as an attempt to get Ubisoft to stop using DRM seems to me like a bad idea. I believe that a better petition for this would be to tell your friend who pirates games (we all have one) to stop. I hate to stick up for a company, but they are doing this to protect their interests due to rampent piracy. They have stuck around on the PC which in and of itself is consession of sorts.

Pirates have no morals. The say they are doing it to stick it to an evil corporation, but look at when a game was annouced (as a good faith gesture) with no DRM. It couldn't have been pirated faster. If we attempt to stop piracy instead of letting it go, that may be a better step then complaining about the DRM in the future.

Rumor: New Borderlands DLC revealed by Trophy leak

Dec 9th 2009 1:57PM (Joystiq)
I have wanted this game for a while now. This time of year sucks for purchases though as I don't know whether or not it has already been gift wrapped for me by the wife (She's good like that) she does all her shopping in advance and forbids me from purchases just in case I get what she has gotten and what I will gettened.

Darn Birthday and Christmas.

I think it will be a nice balance for him as he also had to contend with the strident bickering of all sorts of politicians, the magical tone of numorous spells, and the sweet sounds of an elf making love to a forest witch.

For some reason, this is making me think of old Paddingtion Bear videos, but with more violence. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
