Dragon Age: Origins patched once again

Dec 9th 2009 11:09AM (Joystiq)
I spent most of the two weeks of my paternity playing this as my PC is closer to the bassinet than my consoles. I played an elf thief and built up my character with almost nothing but Dex, Con and Cunning so this fix should make me unstoppable. The worst battle was the forge of the void battle for me. I played it 10 times before winning. However, scaling back Morrigan's crushing prison will limit me a bit, I used to use that to take at least one enemy out of the equation for a little bit. I never really had a problem with mages in the later levels as I would just run Tyrone (my Mabari hound) up to them first thing to overwhelm. Wow, reading this again I noticed that I seem to be a nerd. Oh well.

Smithsonian exhibit 'The Art of Video Games' opens in 2012

Dec 9th 2009 10:42AM (Joystiq)
I wonder what the criteria will be for considering a game as art. Is it the visuals, gameplay or story? Or are they judged by innovation and how they move the medium forward? Or is it that all games are art? I just hope they don’t discriminate against some poor selling games and, conversely, they shouldn’t fill it with all “blockbuster” games. This is harder than I thought.

Xbox 360 Live iPhone app won't be live for long

Common,

Unfortunately it is not hypocrisy, due to the fact that Microsoft owns the service in question and can do whatever they want with it. If the BBC were to allow MS to “resell” their service via gold membership then that would be the BBCs decision as well. As it stands, both companies are doing the exact same thing at the moment which is stopping another company/person from reselling their proprietary service. The End. People are reaching in this article a little too much to smear MS, but they should be saving it for the RROD articles as MS is well within their rights here. Try to remain neutral as much as possible, because if you blame them when it isn't warrented than your complaints in the future (valid as they may be) lose a lot of their power.

GameStop offers chance to vote on Red Dead Redemption pre-order bonus

Nice,

"One hundred, you lied to me, Mr. Lundegaard. You're a bald-faced liar. A fucking liar. Where's my goddamn checkbook? Let's get this over with."

2009 Spike VGAs to go without a host for the first year ever

I used to respect them as well, but the continued hocking of all things G4 does exhaust me. I also used to be able to make calls on what the rating would be based on the tone on the review itself, but not so much anymore. One recently seemed to me mostly negative with a caveate at the end (that was kind of a throw away) and then got four stars. It just makes me think that for the "big releases" they are always looking for the "good" in the game to appeal to the wide audience. Possibly subconsciencly, but it still seems slightly off to me.

GameStop offers chance to vote on Red Dead Redemption pre-order bonus

These pre-order bonuses are getting a bit out of hand. It's starting to look like used car saleman tactics (if you buy right now before consulting your family and friends, I'll throw in the under coating for FREE). I rather the focus be on the game, like giving a bonus if you buy it new and not used. I can see a benifit in that for the people that make the product, but as a reseller it just seems like a desperate bid for my attention. Like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man.

Divnich: Wii can't help but win this generation

Dec 8th 2009 9:42AM (Joystiq)
It's odd and I don't know the reason, but Natal is a definite purchase for me and the Playstation Motion Controller is not. I may still get it, but I would have to see some innovative uses as I have a Wii and never really play it anymore. I understand that the two are seperate (Wii controller and Playstation Motion Controller), but they seem to have the same general concept and I can't see where my postion as relative to the TV would change the experiance much for me. Again, I may pick it up based on what Sony does with the material, but I am definitely more interested with what Natal is doing with motion tracking probably due to some odd fasination I have with the evolution of electronics (as I see it).

Divnich: Wii can't help but win this generation

Well Dreaded,

Just because every console is in the house doesn't mean there aren't slight biases toward one console or the other. Take me for example, I have all three and I never play the Wii and I use the Xbox 360 more than the Playstation 3 due to the fact that I do not like the load times and errors that frequently occur within my PS3 system (mostly with the updates). Now this problem could be localized to my system, but it still gives me a slight preference. I don't believe anyone can be truly unbiased with systems that are so disparate and if you find something you like on one and not on the other you are then classified as a fanboy unfortunately.

Xbox Live moderators getting serious about Modern Warfare 2's Javelin glitch

Dec 4th 2009 5:59PM (Joystiq)
Dude, glitching is cheating. Cheating gets you banned. This is clear cut. I know you don't see it that way, but you are on a slippery slope. Just because you can do something in a game doesn't mean you should. I could steal money from the bank while playing Monopoly. I can fake a dice roll while playing sorry. I can punch you in the face while playing in a poker tournament and take your money. But when I do, I get punished because it is against the rules. Action, consequence.

The only way I can see you standing up for this is if you do not understand that this is not a natural event within the game. Let me be clear, it is not a natural event within the game and this has been defined by IW. Once it has been defined as a cheat then you have to stop doing it or face the consequences. It is akin to many things, but lets just use this analogy cause it is goofy and barely applicable: a buffet is not clearly marked and the shrimp don’t have a price. The waiter says to you “a price will be out soon, until then don’t eat the shrimp.” At this point you can either wait for the waiter or stuff your mouth full of free shrimp. Which do you do? And are you surprised when you get thrown out of the resturant?
