Get ready for Xbox 360: The Book

Dec 14th 2005 10:02PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'll restate my comment from Major Nelson's blog: The first indication of the quality of the “book” should be that it’s self-published, as opposed to being run through a publishing house. There is literally no quality control through self-publishing companies like Lulu. You can self-publish anything as long as you’re willing to shell out the dough for publication. In the real world of publishing, an author doesn’t *pay* to have his book published. In a lot of ways, self-publishing is a sort of “get-rich-quick scheme.” -sj

Mario Kart DS battle mode blowin' up da spot

Dec 13th 2005 1:16PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I bought my DS w/ Nintendogs on the night of a weekly video game club which I run. Members were playing Soul Calibur III, Shadow of the Colossus, and DDR while I huddled in the corner of the room tapping on the screen and saying "PUPCAKE! SIT!" repeatedly. I had to stop playing after a while, for fear of them smashing my pretty new DS out of frustration. Now I only do tricks in the comfort of my room (with the door closed). -sj

DS sex education title in prototype

Dec 12th 2005 9:18AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Just as a heads up: IGN got Lapis all wrong, and it's painful because a lot of people read IGN and expect what they read to be (shock!) accurate. http://www.montrealgamesummit.com/prog/fiches/gdc.html Lapis was created as part of the Montreal Game Summit Game Design Challenge. Heather Kelley competed against Frank Lantz, Eric Zimmerman, and Pascal Luban in a challenge to create a game with a meaningful representation of sex. http://www.igda.org/events/images/mtl05_14.jpg Kelley was the winner of the challenge, and her site features her powerpoint presentation from the challenge, and well as a quirky java-based version of the game. At the moment, there is no intent to have this game published; it was merely created as part of the Game Design Challenge. -sj
