KTM releases full specs on 125 Duke, we swoon

So awesome looking. As said earlier in the comments, this doesn't work here as is, but if they took this bike and wedged a ~ 400cc single in it, geared it with a really tall 6th gear for highway travel at ~65mph without strangling the engine, and maybe a little more substantial front disc brake, they'd have a winner. Fun commuter, maybe add some tail stuff for hard mounted bags. I've have one in a heartbeat.

I have no doubt that the Veyron is a much more composed car at boulevard speeds. I don't think people understand the difference between a project with goals that produced the Veyron, and a project that it just looking for performance or record breaking.

Weight doesn't matter as much as aerodynamics when you are at those speeds, both over and under the car. The Veyron has active aero which helps a lot.

@ EliteGeek

It's true that carbon fiber wheels have issues with heat, but if you think about it, there's really no where on earth that isn't the salt flats or a testing ring where you can do 200+ for any length of time that will get the wheels up to temp. The only time I think it could become a concern is if you took in for track days/racing, but honestly who is going to do that with this car?

Report: Toyota FT-86 to be badged as Scion, retail for $25K

Since the middle class is evaporating, you can now only design cars that the wealthy can afford or the poor can afford (used). It's too hard to make a sporty car around 20k now, because the people who want it can only afford an 8k used car, and the people that can afford it have enough money for a 30k Nissan 370Z.

Google CEO: Ridiculous that humans drive cars

I agree 100%, with this subtext that I think the story leaves out:

I would give up driving *FOR ERRANDS AND TRAVEL* completely if I could. Can you imagine a world where the only reason to drive is for pleasure? Only sports and off road vehicles would remain. It would be wonderful.

Minority Report for the win. I will absolutely play mobile games and read the paper on the way to work instead of driving in my high speed travel pod thing.

I don't think Schmidt wants driving as a hobby to stop - he just knows that our current travel infrastructure is really inefficient.

Jeep J8 gets shot up to earn ballistic protection certification

This is... actually pretty cool. Like, it feels like a Jeep being used for only utilitarian purposes, which is what Jeep is known for.

I should say, this makes for more effective Jeep marketing, to me, than something like that commercial a little while back of all those ladies in Jeeps (just terrible commercial.) Jeep should always stand for capability, even if they have products like the Liberty.

Spy Shots: 2012 Ford Fiesta ST ready to back up its big brother

@dhammond

The reason we don't get the fog lights is the US version has a larger, longer bumper underneath the fascia. It won't change for the ST either, if we get it. :(

Devil May Cry reboot, in trailer and screenshot form

Sep 15th 2010 6:37PM (Joystiq)
@gmrtom7 I think you're hitting really close to the point of this reboot exercise - after DMC4, and to a degree Bayonetta, it was decided at Capcom that DMC was become only relevant to those that had played the earlier games, and therefor a smaller and smaller consumer base.

In an effort to refresh the property, it has been given a shared control amongst other parties to create something altogether more 'new' than a normal sequel. Dante's new look and disposition may be the first steps into creating a character that is less like an overconfident cartoon and more like someone who can display subtlety in emotion, and things like regret, indecisiveness, etc. Traditionally modes of storytelling not touched upon in previous DMC games.

But the question is, is this what gamers want? One must admit that when they see a protagonist body surf on a demon while firing two handguns, you're not really here for the pathos. Time will tell, and I think they're right in trying this experiment.
