Most bizarre thing you'll read today: Mass Effect's 'virtual orgasmic rape'

Jan 14th 2008 10:02PM (Joystiq)
I just got finished e-mailing Kevin McCullough. I figured instead of just replying in the comments section, I'd try getting in contact directly.

See, I'm a Christian, and if you want to use the label, "conservative". But as a RATIONAL Christian, it really ticks me off when people rant and rave about things by completely lying about it. It makes the sane ones look bad.

I'm all for fighting immorality. But you have to get your facts straight first.

And as a gamer, it makes me even more frustrated hearing somebody like that talk about it as though it's the most graphic game ever, when in reality, many other games have gone farther with sex, making "Mass Effect" tame by comparison.

New Area 51 trailer looking damn good -- and just a bit freaky

Aug 22nd 2007 7:35PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Yeah, it does LOOK good, but the gameplay looks pretty generic. Shooting aliens -- how many times have we done this? Now, I have heard that the story is going to contain some political plotlines, but we'll have to wait until the game comes out to find out for sure.

After playing "Bioshock", this just looks like the same thing we've been playing for years, just prettier.

Microsoft launches new Xbox 360 repair web site

Aug 4th 2007 11:41AM (Joystiq)
My problem with Microsoft isn't so much their customer service over the phone. The first time, I was able to talk to someone within 5 minutes. The big problem was that it took 4 weeks to get it back, and the replacement one they sent me didn't even work. I then spent only 30 minutes on hold to repeat the month-long process again. Still waiting...

Sony's Tretton describes console war with food analogies

Jul 18th 2007 2:57PM (Joystiq)
Is anyone else getting tired of Jack Tretton? I understand it's his job to put a positive spin on Sony, but in every interview of his I read, he just displays himself as more and more of a fanboy, just like the ones that litter the internet.

I own all 3 new-gen systems, and in this gamer's opinion, Sony is falling behind. I play games for the games, and the PS3 is lacking in that department.

This food analogy just makes me sick of Tretton even more.

Tretton: Sony doesn't "bribe" for exclusives

Jul 4th 2007 2:33PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I was discussing this yesterday with some gamers at work, and we all agree: Tretton is an idiot. Well, he's the mouthpiece for the idiots behind Sony's decision to NOT buy exclusives.

This may seem like an underhanded, mean thing for Microsoft to do, but you know what? For most gamers, THEY DON'T CARE!!! They don't care what goes on behind the scenes, they don't care how much money was spent on the game, and they don't care what any executive has to say about their corporation. What they care about is playing video games. And they'll play it on whatever system they show up on.

So if Microsoft wants to shell out the money to get the exclusive, more power to them. People will be drawn to whatever system has the game they want to play. I was originally going to buy GTAIV for PS3, because I only own one PS3 game. Not anymore. Since the downloadable content is only on the 360, I will buy it for that system. THAT is why Microsoft does what they do. And that is what Sony needs to learn.

Drown your 360 sorrows with Ring of Fire parody song

Jun 17th 2007 7:30PM (Joystiq)
Funny, but innacurate from my experience. Mine just went out, and I just got off the phone with Xbox Support an hour ago. It wasn't difficult to use, it understood exactly what I was saying... no problems at all.

Well, there was one small problem. My system is out of warranty, and it'll cost me $140 to get it fixed. But it's better than buying a new one.

Rock Paper Scissors goes mobile

Jun 15th 2007 7:33PM (Joystiq)
What the...? So, for $9, you can give your mind and hand a rest, and let a keychain play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" for you? I've gotta get me one of those... if I were that lazy.

But no matter how stupid these things are, you know what? They'll probably make a ton of money off of these.

GTAIV multiplayer announcement to come in the future?

Apr 11th 2007 6:22PM (Joystiq Playstation)
What do you people want? San Andreas, while HUGE, was mostly empty landscape. There were huge scraps of land in the game that were used for absolutely nothing. Ooh... a mountain. But used for what? Nothing. It was there just tho show how big the world could be.

Instead, you're getting 1 city, that is probably going to be the most immersive, detailed, full-sized city you've every played in a game. 9GB has nothing to do with it.

And no planes? So what? 1: You're in one city, why would you need them? And 2: If you think people get upset at GTA as it is, what would happen if you could crash planes in a detailed NYC look-alike? Problems there, don't you think?

Actually, a $50 price doesn't sound that bad for such a device. Seems worth it to me.

Toys 'R' Us will have Wii in stock Sunday

Mar 30th 2007 9:02PM (Joystiq)
So will Wal-Mart. Well, at least they're supposed to. I'm an associate in the Electronics dept, and we have twelve that we're holding for Sunday.

Wal-Mart's April sales paper advertises Wiis in stock for Sunday, w/ a minimum of 7 per store. So unless stores sold them early, you should be able to find them at Wal-Mart.
