Games make kids fat, nympho chain-smoking alcoholics

Apr 5th 2006 11:40PM (Joystiq)
I'm surprised a "science" site is claiming there's as much of a link between games/violence and smoking/lung cancer. One has actual, factual, indisputible proof while the other, well, doesn't.

Download Oblivion's horse armor, for a price

Apr 4th 2006 9:14AM (Joystiq)
I think pretty much everything on the Marketplace is more money than it should be. Instead of this, people should be bitching about the price to get some new freaking profile images. Why do I have to pay for those at all??

I had 200 credits and nothing to do with them, so I just dropped it on this horse armor. I suppose the worst part about it is how the "quest" is implemented. Basically, you're suddenly given a piece of paper about the armor and told to go all the way to a certain stable, where this orc woman equips it for you (and it's only free the first time, it's 500 gold afterwards). She thanks you for "helping" her. The whole process really just feels half-assed compared to the detail in the rest of the game.

Fanboy poll: Tell us what you're waiting for!

I kind of wish this site would stop trumpeting "free online gaming!" for PS3 when it wasn't explicitly said. Their comments lead me to think more of a Xbox Live Silver than anything else.

GDC: Networker's paradise, but beware

Mar 26th 2006 11:24AM (Joystiq)
I think about this every single time I go to the washroom. I've been doing a half-assed count of it for years. Overall, I'd say it results in about 3.5 out of 5 men never ever washing their hands, regardless of whether or not they use the toilet or the urinal. I think most guys are unconsciously aware of this number, but girls sure as hell aren't.

More people look in the mirror and make sure they look OK than wash their hands after splattering piss around in a urinal. Comforting.

New Dead or Alive movie stills

Devon Aoki... I don't get the obsession Holywood seems to have with this girl for small parts. She isn't that great of an actress and while this isn't that important, I just think she looks weird.

F.E.A.R. sequel in the works for PC & next-gen consoles

At least in single player, what a let down that game was in so many ways... I have good memories of the firefights, but everything else was so lackluster. Hopefully they can expand upon it, but looking at reviews it seems most people saw few issues with it to begin with.

New BioShock screens revealed

I'm confused as to why the games seem that similar in that case to begin with. Reading over it a few times, it just seems to talk about relationships between monsters and weak-points. How is that ED-specific? Maybe I'm reading this wrong.

Nintendo's "vilest advertising obscenity"

Feb 19th 2006 10:33AM (Joystiq)
I honestly cannot believe someone can get negative stars here for saying anything outside of "OMG SUTPSSTSDS" in the first place. Weird, potentially heavily biased system... but hell, it's not my site.

In any case, I'm glad someone came in here and explained the context of the book more. Still, I suppose I cannot really know how effective or not effective this ad was when we don't have any sales numbers for that specific period of time... Not to mention the fact that there were likely several Play It Loud style ads on at the same time and a few people in here have mentioned the commercial was different from how this book describes.

"Vile" is still a strange word to use for what essentially means "a failed commercial that didn't entice any one into buying the product". And even if I take it that way, I still feel like I've seen worse lol.

Nintendo's "vilest advertising obscenity"

Even if I take this description of the commercial and exaggerate its lameness in my mind, I really don't see how it's anywhere near being the worst EVER anything.

In any case, the Butthole Surfers are a damn good band despite their name. Hairway to Steven!

F.E.A.R. coming to the Xbox 360?

Feb 11th 2006 2:05PM (Joystiq)
Not a bad game per se, but I feel it was incredibly over-rated... at least as a single player title. How that games cliched ideas were remotely scary, I have no idea... and it's sure not helped by some really dull areas.

The firefights were damn cool though, regardless of how few enemy types there were. The game really shined in that regard.
