They have more Studios than anyone else. They are also probably the most open to indie self published devs. They don't wholesale dump strong IPs but still keep new IPs coming in. They share technology with third parties and certainly share even more code internally. Socom added what has been so far the best compelling implementation of Move's version of Motion controls to their game in 2 weeks.

If you can come up with any reasons as to why Sony seems like it's slowing down either in number of titles, variety or quality please share. Otherwise enjoy being as dim as your outlook.

Depends on the focus. If they wanted quick money they would make moves like MS did with Xbox shipping known bad HW and fairly conservative specs. Can't blame MS too much since they have probably lost more money on Xbox overall than Sony has for all PS systems combined and were looking to profit chase. Overall somewhere in the middle would probably be acceptable. Build it as if it was a 10 Year system market it and offer services as if it was a 5 year system. The long tail of the last few years would make it worthwhile without making the Successor feel like a gamble when it hits the market.

@nerdydesi That's kinda like me except it's since I switched to Linux ;) Only broken my computer with software stuff 3 times since then and it was me being stuipd about something. Hardware dies like crazy though :( Building a new Box this year let's see how reliable this one ends up being.

You won't have to fear for that till a firmware comes out that has some game features (not something like adding S-ACD or MKV support to XMB) until then you should be clear.

Side note if you are serious about keeping Linux and Serious about keeping up with PS3 games may want to hang around malls for PS3 Slim sales.

Point is they knew that there were other versions possibly that would be bought by people not putting money directly into Sony's pocket but they stepped up to make sure that it came to the people who bought their platform. That's what was important to people who bought a PS3 not that some person who lives some unknown place might have the chance to play the game on a Linux machine.

@winterfang. It's a very English Expression. If someone wanted to prove something in an existing normally verbal argument (mostly in a bar while drunk) you would put a literal chip on your shoulder and dare the person to knock it off your shoulder if they did then it was an invitation to a brawl. People who were constantly looking for a fight would be said to be walking with a chip on their shoulder so anyone who knocked it off accidentally or not, without any previous argument would be a subject for a fight.

Saying someone has a chip on their shoulder means in short that they are looking for trouble and will use any flimsy excuse to start one.

Portal 1 was on the PS3
