How EPA's new fuel economy label would grade current cars

Diesel fumes won't kill you. People see the particulate emissions (the 'smoke') from a diesel and think 'dirty' but fact of the matter is, its really not that bad.

13-year old motorcycle racer killed during warm-up lap at Indy

nicholiservia:

Actually experience comes with experience of DOING IT. You can't learn how to drive or ride by watching other people. I had a motorcycle when I was 9. I raced Jr. Dragsters from 11 until 17, and I still drag race to this day 12 years after I stopped racing Jr. Dragsters. I was able to translate the things I learned racing Jr. Dragsters into competitive bracket racing IMMEDIATELY instead of having to learn how bracket racing in general worked, then learning how to drive the car, and then applying it all together.

These kids aren't racing 1100cc 200+hp bikes. They're racing 50-75cc bikes that make MAYBE 50hp. The death wasn't from hitting the ground, it was from falling and getting hit by someone else. The same thing could happen in soccer if someone falls as someone else is about to kick the ball and instead kicks other player in the head. It could happen if a little league pitcher takes a line drive to the temple, and it could happen if the kid is just riding his bicycle down the street and a rock gets thrown from a lawn mower.

Maybe we should stop having little league and instead load the kids up to go watch MLB players. We should also stop letting kids play soccer and instead have them go watch some MLS or World Cup games until they're 18. Or instead, we can say 'these kinds of things are going to happen'.

The kid died, and that's a tragedy. Motorsports is a dangerous sport, but the parents and the children know this when they sign up.

I agree fully. No one complained that compact cars were too small in the 90's. Why do I need to get a Polo to get something the size of a mk3 Golf? Just keep them all the same size. A mk5/6 Golf is bigger than a B5 passat in terms of interior room and leg space in the back. If you need a bigger car, make a bigger car instead of growing yourself out of the existing segment and then inventing new segments below it to replace the old one.

Why is a Civic now bigger than an accord was 15 years ago? Have we gotten that fat and huge as a civilization that we NEED all that space?

It would take less time on a bicycle. You could do that in about 3-4 hours.

@pretol Actually, I use an adapter to mount vintage film SLR M.Zuiko lenses to my Olympus E-PL1. They work fantastic, and using a 28mm f2.2 is great for every day shooting (considering the 2x crop factory turns the 28mm into a 52mm equivelant). I paid $30 for the adapter and $20 for that lens, and $35 for a 75mm to 150mm lens that are great. Now, you need to manually set the aperture and focus, but thats fine for me since I don't like auto-focus anyways.

Its personal preference. If we wanted cars that disconnect you from the road and the driving sensation, we'd all be driving M3's, and S5's. I've driven both and I feel like I'm telling the car what to do, after it OKs it. Disconnected. Drive an American V8 and you feel like you're DRIVING the car.

@liftedngifted1 Actually, the First Amendment only allows freedom of persecution from the GOVERNMENT on things, not from private corporations, or even other citizens.

@MrFluffyThing Bars are not a 'standard'. They readjusted the amount of bars shown at a given signal strength. So, for example, previously -89dB would show 4 bars, its now 3. The signal is still the same, the way its represented has changed.

Again, there is no standard for 'xxdB = x bars', so no one was 'seeing 3 bars when they should have been seeing 1' because 1 bar doesn't correlate to anything outside of a single manufacturers algorithm to determine said bars.

@arash On the other hand, I was a big Chrome guy until about 2 weeks ago. Tried FireFox 4B1. Haven't opened Chrome since.
