Uplink Audio Strap System offers solar power for runners on the run
Jul 8th 2010 6:55PM (Engadget)I dunno, whenever I've gone running I've wanted as little on my back as possible. This might work if it's super light, but otherwise I don't think I'd want it. Maybe for cycling though!

Apr 11th 2010 11:46AM (Engadget)Actually from how I understand it, Apple is handling multitasking in a way that is very similar to Android! When you are in an application and switch to another, the "Context" that you were in is saved (i.e. the state of the page) so that when you go back the page is restored and it doesn't waste memory and power running in the background.
However, Android provides another form of background operation called "Services" that allow you to perform operations in the background while engaged in another activity. I guess apple instead went with the specific applications for running very specific things in the background, but this in itself is not very different from how services run in Android, albeit much more limited. In this you'd just use the built in background media player capability, whereas in Android you'd start a service and handle playing music through that. In either case, the actual application as you know it, such as pandora, isn't running, just the music streaming and audio playback.
Still, I don't see why it'd be so hard for them to add another application on top of these for doing any generic task in the background. It could be handled just like these, and they could still keep control over it exactly as they do with these background applications for privacy.
