The Amazing Spider-Man has Move support

Mar 26th 2012 2:54PM (Joystiq)
Serious question, though it will sound trolly: Is there anything actually worth playing with Move? It's been out long enough the "new hardware, give it time" phase is well past as pretty much it seems all coverage of anything move related as well... did it fall into the waggle pit the wii dug as was anticipated or have I just been oblivious to something worth throwing money at?

Video: Welcome to your new PlayStation Home

Awsome! There's a yacht that doesn't do anything... wait, that's worth cramming into a sales pitch for an advertising tool?

Rage's Wolfenstein room is filled with pixelated treasure

Seeing that room just makes me realize how violently brown modern FPSs. It's more realistic for their settings, but it makes be pine for a little color.

Free Portal 2 'Peer Review' DLC drops on October 4

@DAmwake
Updates and DLC are different. Allegedly MS only allows one title update before the studio has to pay (in order to keep at bay the waves of game updates faced on the PS3). Good a bad policy? depends on your PoV... I like not having to update everything before I can play, but I also don't like distributors throttling developers who want to support their products...

@Timjoy

World of Goo iOS, Mac on sale; 2D Boy celebrates 5th anniversary

If you don't have this game by now you're a monster. I'm running out of people to buy it for every time it goes on sale... pets next... everyone must play.

Why Halo 4's Warthog can be seen but not driven in Forza 4

Sep 23rd 2011 1:26PM (Joystiq)
They couldn't do it to their standards (totally realistic to the specs) so they didn't do it... good or bad thing, I don't know... would have been fun to crash around a track with a less realistic vehicle (2 wheel steering and some mockup rubber tires) but many people would have complained that it doesn't steer with 4 wheels, or the tires should be more or less grippy, etc... so we get nothing but a pretty picture and some clarkson commentary... good enough for me but I would have like a dummy vehicle to play in.

Forza Motorsport 4 gets a $30 season pass, redeemable for six DLC packs

Sep 22nd 2011 2:12PM (Joystiq)
The way DLC is shaking out from a consumer perspective at this point is basically: Buy a game day 1 and pay full price. Then buy DLC if you want etc. OR wait. The game price will come down. The DLC probably won't but if the game is a big hit (and therefore probably pretty good) you can get a complete edition with DLC included, at again a reduced price...

You can view it as an early adopter's tax, or a discount for feature packed leftovers... For Forza personally I'm in the early adopter camp. I'm willing to pay $60 to get it day 1 because I want it now. There are plenty of games I'm not foaming at the mouth for so I wait for them to drop, and cross my fingers there's extra pack ins to boot. Example: Child of Eden. really wanted to play it, couldn't justify the expense and didn't have the time... wait a while, get a code on ebay for $10. The price is now right. Wait or Pay, your choice. As long as a game isn't crippled by it's DLC (you can have just as much fun without the dlc...) I like that DLC encourages developers to support their projects long term. There are however plenty of examples of sleezy DLC that leave a bad taste in one's mouth (day one DLC is always a little suspect, horse armor is really the prime example though.)

Finally! PS3 Firmware 3.72 arrives, changes everything

Sep 20th 2011 12:50PM (Joystiq)
@Roxas560
I don't mind patches as a concept. But when I haven't played my PS3 for a while (happens often, we don't all game 24/7 unfortunately) and say I want to play an older game... it's not unusual to take over an hour before I actually get to a title menu between system updates and then title updates. and I've got a nice cable connection. If I were on DSL in my area it would literally be hours longer... The alternative is don't install updates and then you can't play online.

Contrast to the xbox, where the longest I've ever had to wait was during a full dash update and a game title update which took a total of 30 minutes and happens at most twice a year...

Factor in that the PS3 has a "solution" in the form of automatic updates atleast for the console, which you have to pay extra for, and I think getting annoyed at frequent, trivial, time consuming updates is pretty well justified. It's not that updates are bad, it's that the competition (the 360) does SUCH a better job from a user perspective (and this is MS, not known for getting things right generally speaking...) that the PS3 updates are so distracting.

it creates a situation where I avoid using the PS3 because I know I'll have to wait for updates. So the longer I don't use the PS3 the more updates there are and the more I avoid it... I've bought 360 versions of games specifically to avoid update hassles on the PS3.

Has nothing to do with the system itself, the services, the games, etc. just the user experience of updating.

Rumor: Super Monkey Ball coming to PS Vita

@BPMOmega XBL PSN Steam

I'm sure the first 2 had to be good for people to care so much about the franchise. I've never played them so can't say. However every version I have played has been horrible, and I love this type of game...
