Xbox 360 Fancast 211 -- Penultimate

May 10th 2011 8:44PM (Joystiq)
Ladies and gentlemen... from the same inspiring Huffington Post management team that bought you the simultaneous walkout of everyone you cared about at Engadget, we bring you round two of the continuing experiment to dismantle AOL's blog portfolio. At HP, we like to think that entertainment doesn't absolutely *have* to be entertaining.

X3F has been one of he most consistently fun podcasts I listen to, and unless something replaces it very soon (and that something involves very prominent Richard and Alexander), they should just walk out and start their own site - gdgt/thisismynext style. The thing that makes Joystiq special is the people, and if they're not appreciated then they should walk (and my money follows them wherever that happens to be).

Gran Turismo 5 hampered by internet congestion, patch coming Saturday

It's understandable that there are some delays while it only does everything :)

BlackBerry OS 6.0 leaked?

Mar 19th 2010 5:27PM (Engadget)
@Phantom Pain I'd just like them to fix a few things on BES before they go playing with the UI. Just started using BES syncing with Exchange and its awful. Desktop deletes require manual reconciliation to update on device, messages manually moved out of the mailbox never reconcile, etc. Thought email was supposed to be the one thing BB were good at :)

Microsoft on copy and paste in Windows Phone 7 Series: 'people don't do that'

Mar 17th 2010 11:30PM (Engadget)
I was going to buy 39 windows phone 7 series devices and several million dollars in Microsoft stock, but now there's no copy and paste they can forget it!!1!

This is so much fun to watch. It's like everyone was in stunned disbelief at how good WP7 looked, and they've all heaved a huge collective sigh of relief that there is once again something to complain about. :)

For my part I moaned and bitched about the lack of copy/paste on the iPhone, but to be honest I hardly ever use it, and it still annoyingly manages not to work on the one piece of text I want to use it with.

Assassin's Creed 2 'Bonfire' DLC and 'Black Edition' content out today

Feb 18th 2010 3:01PM (Joystiq)
Looking forward to giving it a try. The first DLC was a bit disappointing on several levels:

- Disappointingly short (ok it was cheap, but I got myself all psyched up for it then it was gone so quickly)

- No achievements, which just seems ridiculous. Unless they have some other massive DLC coming that would use up their allocation of extra points, I don't see why they couldn't add some for this DLC. Doing anything on the 360 that doesn't have achievements seems unsatisfying. Even zero point achievements would have been something.

- The story being so completely unrelated to the main plot line. I know that this was intentional (i.e. they wanted the retail content to make sense without having to buy DLC), but I feel that they could have done something clever - like maybe having something that happens or is referenced to have happened in sequence 14 which is not critical to the plot but doesn't make much sense, then the backstory to that plot element could be covered in the DLC, so you'd get an "ahh, that's how that came to be" moment. Maybe some cool weapon that you have in seq 14 that you earn in 12/13.

Still, more AC is more AC. If they make it i'll buy it :)

Lara's Underworld adventure goes budget in the UK

May 22nd 2009 9:18PM (Joystiq)
Pretty meaningless price cut - one of the UK's leading high street music/film/game retailers went out of business a few weeks ago, and they've been discounting everything to get rid of stock. Underworld has been selling for 14 pounds (20 bucks-ish) nationwide for a while.

Maybe it finally started selling a lot of copies and the publisher took the hint :)

Isn't much good though. Very glad I didn't pay >40 for it.

Rumor: Secret of Monkey Island coming to XBLA

May 20th 2009 2:33PM (Joystiq)
Awesome choice for XBLA, and i'd pay whatever they charged in a second.

I know it's hoping for too much, but how *amazing* would it be if they got Dominic Armato in to create voiceover for the first game and redrew all the graphics? It probably wouldn't take too long, and if they did that i'd pay retail prices.

The storyline and game mechanics still hold up easily, but if they just port the originals it will put off a lot of people who can't tolerate such low res graphics, especially on a big screen TV. Updated graphics could pull in a whole new audience.

I'm salivating at the thought of playing monkey island again and getting achievements for it. If the developers are reading this, please ensure that there is a "That's the second biggest achievement I ever saw" achievement. :)

Video: What if ... Halo played like Final Fantasy

Feb 11th 2009 6:49PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'd like to see Halo, but in the style of Command & Conquer. I'd simplify the controls and set it maybe 20 years before the Halo event.

God that would be awesome!
