Until there's an actual gameplay video or open beta with independent testing, this is firmly in the *** bullshit vaporware *** category. It's a great concept, sure, but more "Hype" [tm] is not exactly what we need right now. Show the goods.
Still the same underpowered hardware (1ghz with 256MB ram) and locked interface (Apple approved stuff, only).
Sure, you can hack it for Boxee, but the speed is pretty bad for feeds like Hulu and CBS.
I was an original owner of a 40GB ATV. After years of hoping Apple would do it justice, I finally sold it on craigs and bought a PS3 Slim for $299. I would install Boxee, and along comes an Apple TV Update to squash it. Repeat a few times and I have had enough.
On the PS3 Slim, the raw performance gain playing and navigating HD movies on my external hard drive is dramatic.
Apple needs to kill this thing or put some serious work into. By 2009 standards, this thing is junk. Sorry.
For years Apple has been trying to drag these dimwits kicking and screaming to the money-tree.
Somehow, I suspect they will find a way to lose their way again. I also predict sales will be less than stellar when it does drop. If you wanted their stuff, chances are somehow it's already made it to your iTunes. If you are 14-25, you probably don't care anyway.
These guys couldn't find their asses with both hands. What a way to blow a strategic advantage! The software is overpriced at $99, and the dock/mount is a no show with no announced price.
Why do they feel a need to screw with customers like this?
Any Chinese plastics shop could pump this out in 3 days-- and slap a fake TomTom logo on it to boot.
TomTom... there are TOO MANY competitors for you to act like a big slow moving bonehead international company. Time to execute and over-deliver rather than promise and delay.
