Honestly hard to take this seriously, I think gamers with a grudge stacked the deck. Last I heard EA didn't play a major part in the economic downturn that's pretty much undermined the global economy. There are far worse offenders and because of this kind of hijinx I seldom take web surveys seriously.

@geeuhnooch Yeah but the last thing the world needs is a bunch of trained assasin nerds. Forum posters would never be safe again. :-P

What made this such a good April Fools was it was really believable right up to the last little bit. What's scary is I could actually see much of this happening. :-P

I don't understand the "promote to single player" that I'm seeing. I've got a level 20 already what do they mean by that? Can you carry your multiplayer character over to the single player game or something?

@chromekreeper Also it's misleading, they did receive money, in fact even the local college received money to establish a joint training program with SK in previous years. What probably happened is they are in violation of the terms of their grant by firing people when they were supposed to have been hiring people so probably had it revoked. Also they aren't producing product. They've been getting grants year over year for ages and have produced two games. Both flops. I doubt the flop aspect matters but the government does want to see some return on investment.

@Liquidfingers Facts, they're your friend. It wasn't a bailout, a bailout is when a company is floundering. This was an investment to increase the size and allow a region of Ontario not exactly known for high tech industry (Saint Catharines) get a little more stability and build an industry beyond what exists. I don't think SK should have got the money as they are an irresponsible company who squandered the previous grant and instead of hiring people fired them, grants serve a purpose though. They allow companies to grow and establish them selves bringing long term benefits to the community in the form of jobs and tax revenue.

@Fakeassname the thing is Bioware wouldn't have opened a studio here for MMO development anyhow. The reason it selected Austin is there's an existent base of developers experienced in working on MMOs there. You gotta go where the talent is, that being said I wish Bioware was in Ontario. Be a lot less of a waste than pissing away money with a company like Silicone Knights.

And there goes any chance of a life once this game comes out. This sounds like an awesome idea! I like Minecraft okay, it's not really my bag but this combination of ship and space trading is my catnip.
