Joystiq hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii)

Sep 15th 2008 2:50PM (Joystiq)
I wouldn't touch dual-analog Resident Evil 4 with a ten foot pole, but on the Wii it was revolutionary for me. The lack of a Wii version for RE5 has killed any excitement I had for the latest sequel. So, there's another example you can add with Metroid Prime 3 for Wii > Dual Analog.

As far as SW-TFU is concerned, the 360 demo completely underwhelmed me. The lightsaber was only good for throwing at people, which was less fun than throwing people at people. The Wii's motion controls and duel mode combined with force powers unleashed and a new story are my impetus for any excitement in this latest installment in the star wars universe.

Joystiq interview: Cliffy B

Cliff answered the questions given to him. I didn't see the supposed self-aggrandizing being claimed by what I must guess are rabid Sony fanboys in denial. I think they just got pissed that he said the only thing that got him excited at the moment was DS!

Now, for the topic everyone is really talking about;
If I don't have a 1080p display, I don't even want to look at a PS3. Nothing will look any better on PS3, than it does on 360, without the higher resolution. I don't have $2,000 to spend on games and TV, though, so PS3 is screwed.

The added cost of Blu-Ray is also a waste without the added resolution. I can spend $600 on a PS3 for a Blu-Ray enabled PS3, or $100 on a HD-DVD add-on for my 360. Both would be played on the same high-definition TV, which doesn't support 1080p, so they'd look exactly the same. I'm not worried about who wins the format war, because I rent. No point in purchasing expesive media when downloaded movies/tv are making them obsolete.

By the way, about the PS3 duck demo at E3; they could've controlled TWO ducks with Nintendo's Wii. Buying 360 + Wii = same price/better value than PS3.

Spending some time with the DS browser

Jul 31st 2006 6:34AM (Joystiq)
I can confirm that Opera DS supports Javascript and AJAX, which I learned from the Opera forums. I've also heard that ebuddy and webmail both work on DS, so you can bet on having portable instant messaging. With touch-screen text input, and the ability to turn off images for significantly faster load times, this makes Opera DS one very attractive mobile browser. Especially for anyone who already owns a DS.

BTW, PSP only has very limited Flash support. You can't watch Flash video or play most/any games, so it's pretty useless. And analog text input may become second nature, but so does touch screen text input, and it's much faster and more intuitive.
