Exclusive: Richard Bartle on how he'd make World of Warcraft better
Jun 21st 2008 11:00AM (Massively)he doesn't hate video games. his annoyance at missing the mark of perfection just comes through.
and the summary of his auction house and kharazan comments can really be "why did they choose one way or the other? why can't we have both?" as a designer, why impose arbitrary limitations if it doesn't break the system?
well. all that and he's super-super-witty with a tremendously dry sense of humor.

Detroit prosecutor makes outdated violent games list for holidays
Dec 4th 2007 8:27PM (Joystiq)http://gamepolitics.com/2007/12/04/detroit-prosecutor-issues-outdated-list-of-10-violent-games-to-avoid-for-the-holidays/#comment-278905
----
that’s too funny. so, video games are making detroit the bastion of evil? check out this list: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167468.html
cities with the most video games per capita. top of the list? must be detroit!
nope. it’s salt lake.
damn all those violent lds folks!
tho, detroit does make a showing on the list down in the middle between the body bad filling cities of charleston and columbus.
what about the most violent city in america? st. louis? not even on the list.
so, exactly how does that reconcile with anything kim worthy has to say?

PS3 Orange Box: the slideshow version
Nov 28th 2007 3:43PM (Joystiq Playstation)i don't think it's ea. i think it's sony. the ps3 is so hard to program for that it's not the primary platform. it's so hard (meaning "expensive") to port games that they don't do it. valve doesn't have the resources (money and time) to port the game in house so they have to have the publisher port it.
and, there's obviously not a lot of incentive for ea to do so:
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/11/28/ea-financials-show-ps3-is-least-profitable-system/
maybe if ps3 owners bought more games it wouldn't be a problem.

Jul 31st 2007 7:30PM (Engadget)that kick spawned a new meme amongst everyone in my circle. after the movie, whenever anyone (or any thing, really) irritates us, we threaten to "sparta kick" them/it while growling a gutteral "arrrr! sparta!" at the same time.
yeah. we're dorks like that.

Community plays collaborative Zork, grues tremble in fear
Jun 22nd 2007 7:22PM (Joystiq)"To me, they are the same. A group in a MUD or a single character in Zork...same thing to me."
but this is a group in zork, not a mud.
but, wait...
yep. how silly of me. of course you're right!
they're exactly the same! just like world of warcraft is completely the same thing as oblivion.
good call, man.

Community plays collaborative Zork, grues tremble in fear
Jun 21st 2007 8:45PM (Joystiq)in fact, it's the exact opposite:
ziggy == many people controlling the same, single avatar in a single player game.
mud == many people controlling many individual avatars in a massively multiplayer game.

TwoStick system offers quicker on-screen text entry
Jun 21st 2007 7:57PM (Joystiq)it's still dog-ass slow.
i mean, "yay innovation!" but, the qwerty thumbboard rages all over it for speed. the lesser of two evils is not worth the time to debate.
the only text entry i wanna hear about is the text entry that improves upon 1-click, 1-letter.
