Though it may be true that the quality of the summer of arcade games has been exchanged for quantity, the truth is that you're going to like something more(more likely to give it a chance) if it costs you little or nothing to attain it. You may not do it purposely or you may even be oblivious to the fact, but you are subconsciously critiquing a game more stringently when priced at 1200mp rather than 800mp. Though that 400mp game may not be the greatest thing you've ever played, it only cost you $5, right??
Because games are becoming more expensive, gamers are looking for a higher quality to their games. If they feel this isn't met...well...the company(Microsoft/the developer in this case) closes a good number of potential sales from that consumer. They gain that little extra money in that one transaction, but lose in the end due to a more safeguarded buyer with a closed wallet.
A simple, frustrating, and amazing game! Glad to see it expand to other horizons. It's ashame that it isn't coming to Xbox Live Arcade, but that's life. Maybe it will come, maybe it won't. I'll just continue to play it on my IPhone :D
You're right. Bungie did make the Heroic Map pack free after they released the Legendary map pack. As well as this bonus, they have done contests with the community, rewarded some of the most astounding individuals in the community the coveted recon armor before it became available upon completing the Vidmaster challenges, and have provided users a set amount of free Bungie points to render their in-game videos every month. It is for these, and many other reasons, that Bungie has remained one of the top game developers in the gaming industry and will stay this way in the future.
You're right about Valve being community driven, but I've felt Bungie has made the biggest steps in bringing the community together in terms of Forge, Theater, and their large support of their titles (Halo 3 received 4 map packs and 1 free map). In terms of console games, Bungie is the best in joining the community together. In terms of PC, Valve is the leading front because they are PC based. When I made my statement, I was referring to community on the consoles. IMO
I cried a single man-tear when I saw this last night. I'm just so impressed by Bungie. I've always said that they are one of the only developers, if not the only, that listen to their community to the extent they do and I'm glad they are showing everyone just that . I'm glad I preordered my Legendary edition all those months ago because this will be one of the best games ever made :D
