I love how straight gamers make fun here... they have no idea that person that gave them a perfectly good kill in their favorite game, that one death that made you cry like the German kid video, might be gay.
CSS, and you are dead. Yeah I am gay, and you are OWN3D! Stereotypes are funnier when they are broken! :D
(ok, this came out long... I guess I got inspired :P )
Some of us older gamers thought that, when Sony entered the game (pun intended), games were becoming less and less "for gamers" and the industry has kept getting that way ever since. Until now there was a good split of focus left for gamers. We are at a point were fewer and fewer commercials even show what a game looks like, which is what we gamers actually look for in marketing and advertising!
On my opinion it was getting better before it got worst. I though there were some quality "gamers" games coming out lately (GOW, RE4, NG, etc.) but after seeing some of the new games next-gen, I dont think the same. Games are becoming so dumb out and with just such emptiness to them is not funny, and include characters you dont even care about, not even for a single sequel... but that is just my opinion, and why I think what is next.
Its seems now the big-bad-gaming-show is gone... the show gamers really waited for, news from the latest in gaming would spew out of every media and there were some of us who got that tingly sensation of reading EVERY SINGLE NEWS ABOUT IT!... You know who you are now... :)
Game companies have many other venues to get to the mainstream gamer. Don’t get me wrong I know E3 was geared towards mainstream to begin with; I mean what TV show didn’t at least mention the industry biggest show!? But there is nothing else besides GDC that caters to gamers, and even then GDC is geared more towards developers.
Well with E3 gone, what the heck are these companies doing for us gamers in terms of marketing?
Magazines, bah… We are probably too old to know that we dont want anything sent to me via actual mail anymore. Every company out there, stop it, now just stop... Now, send all those ads but just send them via spam... I will sure filter them out.
Internet ads? please! ... If have been playing games for this long, I probably know how to use computers and the internet. AdBlock baby...
Internet news sites like this?... mmm with all due respect to Joystiq.com… There is nothing any of these news sites could do by without the news avalange that E3 is, the sheer amount of games, the speculation, the new systems and their magical tech numbers that in the end don’t mean a thing... they will surely be missed.
If E3 doesn’t make news sites go crazy like head-less chickens, May will be the same as any other month and these news sites won't try to crown a game or company! Gamespot, EGM, Gamepro and others report on multiple consoles yet all know they have a favorite company, admit it, and we all LOVE to read how they rate each company and games for E3.
I can believe this industry will center 100% to the mainstream consumers and not even give us the light of day anymore but I knew this day would come, I don’t know if it is really today but it is closing up… and you know what, in all truth I see the oldest console maker of the three set up to take that “mainstream consumer” market all console makers should look for, Nintendo...
Nintendo can easily take this next-gen mainstream market with low prices, great innovation and easy and cheap development tools…And I add this at the end of my post, not because I am a fanboy (I own and play all 3 consoles), but because they are the only hardware maker left from when I became a gamer. I sure hope Nintendo kicks ass this Next-Gen, even if they are doing something very non-pro-gamer... just like the industry is doing by killing E3.
