Wii Warm Up: Piracy

May 15th 2007 11:28AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
What I love is the modchippers go on and on about homebrew with the PS2. The problem is...the PS2 is crap hardware for homebrew. It's cool for about a week...and then you realize it's worthless. I thought playing off the hard drive would be more convenient. It isn't. Same with the Gamecube.

There's tons of games that are hard or near impossible to find, or you don't have the console anymore....*looks over at a dozen SNES carts*. However, being a programmer, I understand that purchased software supports the workers' careers. If it's realistic, I'll gladly pay now that I can afford it. $20 for something like a screen saver is a ripoff though.

Nintendo Power shutting down?

May 15th 2007 11:15AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I got a few issues last year (for free per registration), and it was just way too much Nintendo and not enough overall game industry. I didn't like it for the same reason I didn't like OXM or OPM. The single-brand coverage magazines just don't seem to give as balanced reviews nor provide information in a way that feels like a face-punching advertisment for the brand in focus.

The old 8-year old in me flipping through Ninja Gaiden III screen shots and Megaman passwords is sad, but NP is past its prime.

WRUP: We need a new game edition

May 11th 2007 1:59PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
"To the number 1 Troll. I will be playing SSX Blur, Excite Truck or Trauma Center."

He's troll?

I'd have to agree with him and the article...I've bought a few games for the Wii, but it needs something fresh. Metroid is taking forever! I keep hoping that the Wii and PS3 sections will get something exciting...but nothing yet.

I'll probably end up playing Guitar Hero 2 and Call of Duty 3 on the 360 this weekend. I'm still dying for Metroid. Did I mention that?

Wii to crush gaming industry, shoot kittens

Apr 27th 2007 7:37PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The Wii is great, especially for new gamers. More experience gamers love it, too.

I have a hard time believing it will hold the interest of the "hardcore" however. So far, it seems that when Wii Sports gets old, you're done. We played it non-stop for a month and then we went back to the Xbox 360. We'll play the PS3 when it gets games as well.

I really want to play Metroid. But when I'm done with that...I'm not sure what else to look forward to. It was the same thing with the DS for me. I guess we'll need to see what games we get before we'll know anything.

Monolith Soft now part of Nintendo's monolith

Apr 27th 2007 11:51AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I don't believe Monolith Soft owns the rights to Xenosaga. I'm sure Namco gets to keep that one. However, I'm sure Namco would still work with Nintendo if need be.

Actually, I was almost pissed, because I thought they meant "MONOLITH" (http://www.lith.com/games.asp), not Monolith soft. Thankfully 'lith will still pump out the quality games they have for years.

I really want to see more Xenosaga....whether on Wii or not!

Wii Warm Up: Is Wii Sports worn out?

Apr 25th 2007 7:09PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I only play it when we have guests, or if I bring it to my parent's house. It's luster has become dull.

When Metroid comes out...my Xbox 360 will cry for a bit. My PS3 may twitch in its coffin. LOL

Monster's Wii cables selling at horrifying prices

Apr 19th 2007 2:41PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Monster cables are generally high quality, but not high enough to justify the ridiculous costs. Optical and HDMI cables are prime examples; way over-priced for a non-improvement.

What you are paying for is the near-unlimited warranty. The last time I checked, you only needed 3/4th's of the cable to do an exchange, and any location that sells that monster cable has to do a warranty exchange.

We had some MC vendors explain it to us and give us partial samples when I worked at Musician's Friend. Some employees took the samples and traded them in for whole cables at Guitar Center. Monster Cable changed their samples after that needless to say. LOL

Times change, but that's how it was 3 years ago.

Perrin Kaplan says shortages will continue

Apr 11th 2007 3:15PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
What pisses me off is that it's essentially a Gamecube in a different form-factor. The parts shouldn't be difficult to come by. Then again, they are probably at maximum capacity; there's no point in forcing a supply demand situation at this time in the year.

Sure, I have a Wii, but I wasn't happy about having to wait several hours and deal with a line in the middle of the night...this was months after launch. Hopefully the interest stays high, because after a while people tend to give up.

Metroid Prime 3 not shipping before July

*sigh*

The one game I'm looking forward to on the Wii seems so far away. =\

Analyst picks PS3 to beat Wii

Mar 26th 2007 5:09PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I just don't think the Wii will get the 3rd party games to drive the console. The first party lineup is great, but that isn't good enough for the versatile demands of gamers. However, what we end up with will probably be fine for all the newcomers we're getting.

A big concern of mine is that we're in a time where SD video is becoming decprecated, the Wii's 480p is going to become antiquated in a few years. SD broadcasts are going away (in the US). I like the Wii...but the games are so damn ugly compared to the other two consoles. It works with Wii sports and cartoonish games, but it fails miserably in "serious" games (Madden, Tiger, Far Cry, Call of Duty, etc.). I was expecting at least upper-tier Xbox visuals but ended up with sub-PS2 visuals in some cases. It's disappointing.

The remedy is high-quality games. Nintendo is the best provider of those, but that's not necessarily a good thing for a successful future.

I bet the analysts just don't know what to think of the Wii since it's so separated from the other two.
