Market research firm forecasts console sales through 2010 [update 1]

Oct 23rd 2006 1:55PM (Joystiq)
Ok, who in their right mind is going to spend $250 on a slightly modded gamecube? Unfortunately the "Next Gen" arena is a bit pricey. I am going to stick to the good old PC. I can go to 1280x1024 resolution and full hardware accelerated sound. If I had to choose, I would say Sony will win in the long run. It has more performance which means that it can hang around the scene for a longer time(but damn that price hurts). The Wii will sell like a beast because of the gimmick controller but will be outdated about 6 months after launch but will continue to sell to their kiddie fanbase. The 360 is a solid machine that will keep going strong for several years.

Pretty sweet list. (yes i am one of the people who got tired of keeping track)

MS shuts down Halogen mod ... why now?

Sep 14th 2006 6:25AM (Joystiq)
This just mean that when microcrap does release their RTS, we don't have to buy it. I have been annoyed at MS for ripping off developers for years. This is a new low even for them. I can understand telling these folks "Hey, we own this, you need to change this so that it doesn't infringe on our IP" But to just go in and a****ck them just to get a thrill is wrong. I guess the Wii360 is gonna have to become the PSWii

North American, Japanese PS3 launch limited to 500,000 units

Sep 6th 2006 1:11PM (Joystiq)
Grant, I am mainly saying that Nintendo will probably sell 20-30 million Wiis(at least)in the first year or 2). I think Sony will probably take twice as long to get to that point. The Playstations have a lot of staying power. They are still releasing games for the PS2 that rock and it has been out for a LONG time. Like I said, I will be waiting a while before I pick one up, that way the bugs are gone, the games are going good, and I can actually afford one. Yes the PS3 is in a shitty place right now, I just don't like how people are dismissing it. In 3 years a lot of people in this thread will be proven wrong. At Christmas time this year they will be right, Sony will be sucking on their own a**.

Evan,

If that is the case, then the original Nintendo wins, it starts up instantly and NEVER lags. I guess that if you use the "pixels don't matter" scale the original Nintendo would be a NHRA rail car.

Pixels are what people want. they dont want fuzzy charachters. They want to see the wrinkles in the fender after they wreck, they want to see the blood spray when they execute their finishing move, and they want to see the sweat beading at the free throw line. the only way to do this is to have high computing power.

Karmakin,

I am still wondering how accurate their system is. If they do it as well as the MS Sidewinder joystiq, I will be happy with it. If it is like a generic joystiq that only works on half the motions you want, then it won't be worth it. Exitetruck will let me know this. Let's just hope they build this thing right.

The PS3 will be the fastest and most powerful of the 3. That alone is not worth buying it. It is the potential for the software developers. It is why the sale of video cards spiked when Half-Life 2 was launched. If you have a badass machine, it can do more. That is why the casual gamer doesn't need a PS3 or even a 360. I will just have to say wait and see. If Sony wasn't trying to rape us with the price tag, I would be waiting in line for the oversized console (or is it an undersized PC?).

This is funny. This conversation is like saying that Kia beats Ferarri because they sell more cars. The PS3 will be for the person that wants the best of the best(excluding PC ;-), the 360 is for the middle of the road group, and the Wii will be for little kids and the casual gamer. If you look at the grouping, you will realize that the diehard gamers are not a huge group so the PS3 doesn't have to be sold in such high numbers. Yes I am a fan of Sony. Will I buy a PS3? Not until they come down in price after a year or two. I WILL be getting a Wii for my wife(not a diehard gamer) after the new year. The PC is still the king.

Joystiq hands-on: Xbox Live Vision camera (or: IT BEGINS!)

This will be the greatest boon to pedophiles ever. Giving a camera to kids and hooking it up to their video games. BAD idea. It wouldn't be bad if the parents were there to watch their kids, but what are the chances of that?
