Many Wii online functions not ready for launch [update 1]
Nov 16th 2006 3:08PM (Joystiq)Joystiq poll: Which video format will prevail?
Nov 15th 2006 8:43AM (Joystiq)a) Seems to have the momentum right now
b) Has more releases that count (since the biggest release on BD is Little Man)
c) Has better codecs
d) Isn't manufactured by the company that brought me Video8, Beta, MiniDisc, MMCD DVD, SDDS, SAC, ATRAC, UMD and memory stick. Sony loves proprietary, therefore I don't like what they offer, since draconian ideals usually result in the consumer losing.

Nov 7th 2006 1:15PM (Joystiq)While I'm not buying a PS3 for a myriad of reasons (Lik Sang, trojan horsing, rootkit and lousy PS2 console quality chief among them), this latest pissing contest isn't one of them.
Consider:
1) Sony has explicitly stated that you could put in any hard drive you want at any time. Your 20GB can become 350 in a flash, without any propretary casings that drive up the cost.
2) Wi-Fi can be added through one of the USB ports. The 360 doesn't have Wi-Fi out of the box either; I had to buy an adaptor to get that.
3) USB 9-in-1 - or higher - card readers are dirt cheap, usually under $30 femurs (grammar check, please). Having one built in isn't that big a deal. Again, the 360 doesn't have it, and nobody's complaining.
From ripping me off and copying me (and ignoring me when I tried to contact you about it) to this dreck is showing me that Joystiq isn't doing gamers any favours. Go ahead and wipe my stars, they aren't worth the pixels they're displayed on.
PS3 Ridge Racer: 9 minutes too long?
Nov 3rd 2006 9:10AM (Joystiq)There's a difference between caching data and installing data. That's why the 360 needs it for backwards compatibility. Also, many 360 games also do some caching if the HD is detected. Finally, there are also going to be 360 titles that are hard-drive required (FF11 already is).
Just various food for thought.

Joystiq poll: Do you read the manual?
Oct 17th 2006 9:36AM (Joystiq)I actually hold it against a game that doesn't tell me, in-game, everything I could learn from the manual. I'm a busy man. I don't have time to waste 'reading.'"
So you don't have time to waste "reading" yet you have time to waste "playing video games." Huh. That's interesting.
I'm the opposite. I hate in-game tutorials, especially when they take up the first hour or more of gameplay - and don't tell me you haven't played a game like that. We all have. I think it's pretty shoddy design if your game isn't something that can simply be played. Did you need a tutorial to know to stomp on the head of a goomba? Of course not; you died when you touched it. That's why certain games stand the test of time.
Possible Revolution Interface #15: It's called Wii now

I wouldn't be surprised if it actually was an early design document. A number of the elements in it are part of the final console/controller, such as the four blue LEDs, the dots indicating which controller number is associated with the LES, the flap for SD cards and the self-loading media bay.
