Battlefield 3 preview: Getting our PC multiplayer on with some classy changes
Jun 8th 2011 5:09PM (Joystiq)its an ASUS M4A79 Deluxe (AM2+) with a Phenom II 940 at 3.5GHz, 8GB RAM and a pair of ASUS 4870s is Crossfire. so its no slouch. i just have the itch to upgrade since i haven't done anything to it in almost 3 years and my GPUs are 2 generations old. but you're right for all practical purposes its more than adequate.
NFS Shift 2 started to stutter on my last night but i know NFS games have a history of not playing nice with AMD/ATi GPUs. Hot Pursuit has weird artifacting and stutters with a lot of cars on screen but my GPU history shows it never went over 60%. weirdness. i'll try Dirt 3 soon to see how well a non-NFS racer performs.
i can't seem to find official spec requirements for BF3. all i can find is speculation.

Jun 8th 2011 4:28PM (Joystiq)i have 8GB of Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066 (4x2GB dual channel) but it under clocked due to the AMD limitation stuff i was not aware of. hopefully it runs well enough. i'll probably end up building a new system when those AMD FX chips and 7000 series GPUs hit a reasonable price in a year or two. now would be a stupid time to upgrade.

May 9th 2011 3:07PM (Joystiq)i don't know how anyone can claim Brink is a clone of anything. it definitively takes some inspirations from other games but thats to be expected for any game of any genre. looks like one of the more original games i've seen in a while. i'll probably rent it first but if its as good as it looks i will probably buy it.
