Endless Racing Game demo is on the right track

Nov 2nd 2009 11:24PM (Joystiq)
Did you guys even try it out? It's 100% nothing like that video. Never mind the fact that a bluetooth connection and the accelerometer could never accomplish something along those lines (maybe if you added the compass). It's quite literally a crappy spyhunter clone you play on a single iPhone until you reach the 60 second mark at which time a canned "cutscene" plays and the other "half" plays on whatever 2nd iDevice is connected via bluetooth. Then you continue the crappy spyhunter clone on another iPhone. Repeat ad nauseum. There's an actual gameplay video in the related videos on youtube. Check it out and and bask in it's lameness.

I'd be angry, but it's free and only consumed 5 minutes trying to get it to work, so I'll downgrade to being bummed. I could have spent those 5 minutes waiting for a Google Wave invite...

Want to sell an iPhone game? Price it $2 or less

Jul 11th 2009 4:55PM (Joystiq)
Another app developer here. I worked on a game priced above the $4.99 price point, and it was in the top 10 apps for 2 weeks. At one point we discussed dropping the price to $0.99, but in order to make the same amount of money we were making at #68 on the top 100 list, we'd have to sell double the amount copies we were selling at #7.

Peggle gets mentioned a lot. They were a $4.99 app that also peaked initially around #6. When it dropped to $0.99 it shot to #1, but unless they were selling 5x as many copies per day than before the sale, it was actually loosing money. The *brilliant* move by Popcap, was that the sale only lasted 3 days and then the game went back to $4.99. Even with the original price, it managed to hang out in the top 10 for awhile longer, and *that's* where the money was earned. The $100,000 question is whether they made back the amount of money they lost with the sale or not.

As a final note, for the love of God, can everyone please stop buying The Moron Test? Seeing it as #1 for months makes me sad for humanity.

Palm says licensing webOS "not a religious issue"

Heheh... I still have my NZ-90. My wife (then fiancé) bought it for me as a Christmas present, gosh, 6 years ago now?

iPhone 3GS data isn't really faster than the 3G's in Chicago

Jun 20th 2009 12:33PM (Engadget)
You know, this is the first bit of marginally bad 3GS news and there's not a single Pre owner in here threadcrapping all over the place. Quite the opposite scenario in any post with the tag Pre on it.

Dude hardwires Palm Touchstone into BMW, charging ensues

Jun 18th 2009 3:18PM (Engadget)
If you check out the forums over at precentral.net there are several guys doing this to all sorts of vehicles (thought not all as clean as this bimmer). Some of the posts contain pretty good instructions, and links to sites where you can order the necessary parts. Now all I need is for my online order of a few touchstones to show up!

Report: Investors shouldn't put faith in EA 'management's current guidance'

May 27th 2009 7:36PM (Joystiq)
I'm gunna go with Wayne on this one... EA has finally turned around, started pushing out some real innovation and quality games, and here come the analysts, and soon the shareholders, on their march to burn this thing right down to the ground again.

Amazing how BlizzActivison has taken over the reigns on the industry, the craptastic sequels, and the non-gamer household names. Just because everyone's Mom bought GH3&4, and even their dog plays WoW, suddenly the "right call" is to cater to "non-hardcore" consumers... yes, make us 12 more movie tie-ins and 20 more sequels with a number higher than 5 on the end, because it'll sell regardless of quality.

I wish I could say that having our passion and entertainment cater to people who don't care whether they go out or stay in, watch a movie or play a game, buy a household item or buy a console, doesn't bug me... but that's a lie, because it effects investors and attitudes of everyone involved. "No, I don't want to invest in your innovation... I'd rather invest in a licensed casual puzzle game".

I hate it. Cowen Research? Shut the hell up. Shareholders and boardmembers? Leave the company alone. You turn them back into the EA of old and I'll.... probably just make anonymous hatespeech on niche internet sites.

Skate 2 enables red/blue 3D mode via cheat code

Mar 1st 2009 4:57PM (Engadget HD)
Just a note... while the code works and the image is a red/blue anaglyph. The Sobe glasses you mentioned (which I did hang onto, thank you very much!) have amber/blue lenses and thus, don't work with this type of thing. Bummer.... off to find a different pair of nerd specs.
