Bioshock Tuesday: win an Xbox 360 and a copy of Bioshock

Aug 26th 2007 9:46AM (Engadget)
Gotta be RE4. What an incredibly visceral and satisfying game to play. Gears of War comes close, though, especially with the Torque Bow.

Sony Australia: Wii "a bit pricey"

Oct 10th 2006 11:54PM (Joystiq)
WiiOn360: I'm confused. How do you expect the Nintendo console to get more and less gimmicky titles, if you won't support it? I mean, if nobody buys it, it definitely will be title-starved. But some popular support and it could become something amazing, like the DS has been. I'm excited for the Wii's possibilities, and I don't want to see it tank like the GC. I think we owe it to ourselves to see how a new control system could change gaming.

Metareview - Okami (PS2)

whitefinger: It won't be, porting to and from the PS2 is a nightmare. The game wouldn't sell enough to make it profitable.

But it doesn't need to be. Painting works fine with the DualShock. A sequel on the Wii would be fantastic indeed, though.

Personally, I wish it had come out for the GC, for one reason only: Loading times. They're pretty long, and that's really the only flaw of the game.

Metareview - Okami (PS2)

Woo! I absolutely love this game. It's very resemblant of Wind Waker, both in terms of style and in the openness of gameplay. This is a very good thing. I refuse to compare the two, both are fantastic in graphics and gameplay.

I don't think it's too easy. Enemies probably won't kill you, but the boss fights are all pretty challenging, and some of the puzzles (final Blockhead, grrr) are controller-throwing hard.

Overall, it's very deserving of the high scores. Beautiful graphics, tight and fluid gameplay, and epic in length. It ranks among the Zelda games in fantastic action/adventures.

Additionally, I agree that this bodes very well for Wii games. It proves that a weak system can easily compete against stronger ones with a great artstyle. I haven't seen anything next-gen that looks as good as this.

Joyswag: A Castle Crashers tee for your thoughts ... the revenge! [update 1]

Viewtiful Joe! An excellent update of the beat-em-up genre, with a killer visual and artistic style to match! Great use of movie special effects integrated into the fighting and puzzles.

Zombies, Aliens, or Nazis? Designing the perfect game enemy.

Sep 2nd 2006 11:26AM (Joystiq)
I don't think ugliness is required for the perfect enemy. Take the Colossi from SotC: many were gorgeously designed and majestic. That only made them better enemies in my eyes. All the others definitely apply, though.

PSP price to drop to $149 this holiday season?

Aug 11th 2006 10:27PM (Joystiq)
My Opinion is absolutely right, the PSP does have a lot of great games. As many/as high quality as the DS's? That's totally subjective, especially since the types of games are so different. For example, I wouldn't recommend a sports or racing game fan go with the DS.

If the rumor turns out to be true, I might even be persuaded to pick a PSP up. What with the PS1 games (Symphony of the Night!) and games like Loco Roco and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, it wouldn't be too bad an option. Unfortunately, there is a ton of stuff I'll have to buy in the last quarter (Wii, Z:TP, Okami, etc.), and the PSP might end up getting bumped out of my queue, price drop or no. I'll see how my wallet goes.

Finally, Ethan and ipodfanboy are far too optimistic about the PSP's future. It's worthwhile noticing that all of the things Ethan mentions to make the PSP "hot" except Killzone and Loco Roco are sequels to games that didn't end up selling the PSP so well. And considering they are a sequel to a mediocre PS2 shooter and oddball (but awesome, true) Japanese game, respectively, I wouldn't count on either being a killer app. The system needs more than a price drop to catch fire. What the PSP needs is the same thing that made PS2 a success: an overwhelming third-party majority, so that Nintendo's games can't keep up. Unfortunately, with news like EA's just today, they may not ever get it.

Production company ready to whore out Castlevania

Aug 7th 2006 2:05PM (Joystiq)
Well, I'm definitely not going to watch the shows or movie unless a miracle occurs and they're actually decent. Judging from AVP, that ain't gonna happen.

However, I am interested in that art over the post; it's the best renditions of Soma & co. I've seen. Who drew that? It's not overly feminine (Aria's art) or generic anime (Dawn's)!

Gamer lexicon that bugs

Aug 2nd 2006 12:44PM (Joystiq)
Most of the terms here are pretty inoffensive. Wi-Fi means Wireless Fidelity, and so is just a shortening of a technical term. If you're going to whine about it, I better see you use "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation" soon. I can't get too worked up over Ninty or Wii-mote either. Heck, I find the lisp kind of endearing. And BOOM! HEADSHOT! I suspect is an irritant simply because of the state of the one who hears it (i.e., fragged).

"Kiddie," on the other hand, pisses me off. Katamari Damacy, to use an example, contains no violence, and brightly colored, lego-like graphics. Am I to stop rolling up crap in balls just because it lacks explosions? For shame.

EA gabs Q1, Wii, PS3, and E3

Aug 1st 2006 10:11PM (Joystiq)
Number 2 is thrilling, are you kidding? No price increase for EA's Wii games is the best news I've heard all day. Sets a precedent for the other third-parties.
