Dyack ponders Eternal Darkness sequels, post-Too Human

Jul 11th 2006 8:19AM (Joystiq)
A note, flyguy: the game, when it was developed, was second-party, like Rare's N64 stuff. Silicon Knights was owned by Nintendo.

I just picked this game up for cheap, and it's totally worth it. Graphics are not fantastic, but they're good enough to convey the creepiness of the game. Definitely not unplayable or less fun today.

It plays very differently from the (classic*) RE series. The freedom of movement you have (no tank controls) is very liberating, and the targeted aiming is a big step up. Combined with its focus on melee weapons over guns, you have a control system much different (and better to me) than RE's.

Sanity effects are great, though I haven't had the "controller unplugged" one or the memory card one yet. Shame.

*I didn't include RE4 in the comparison, because it's so different. Its controls are definitely better than ED's, but they would make the game play totally differently. ED's suit it very well.

I'm going to be a grammar nazi here and remind you that the word you mean is "unfazed." True, many people make the mistake (even Wiktionary!) but I expect better!

On-topic, yes, the Sony rhetoric does remind one of Nintendo in the mid-90's. We'll see if history repeats.

I'm also very interested in ExciteTruck and Sonic Wildfire, in addition to the games baberg posted. Might give Wii Sports a miss though, as it doesn't seem *for* me.

Damn that airplane game looks cool, though. Maybe if it's budget priced.

The point is, a slapped-together, poorly thought through product (like the Xavix and the Civil War sub) could never work as well as one made through extensive time, effort and development (U-boat and Wii). A person should not be prejudiced against the latter simply due to the failure of the former.

Ethan- you know that comparison (Xavix and Wii) is about as useful as comparing the hand-powered Civil War submarine and the U-boat, right?

Ethan- You know that?!

May I borrow your time machine?

Anyway, "put no trust in rumors or hobos" is my motto.

Miyamoto: Wii Sports will be flagship title, Wiimote not finalized

Yeah, that guy, I agree. I'm getting sick of "non-games" like the recently released New Super Mario Bros. and Magnetica. Hopefully upcoming "non-games" like Final Fantasy III will help the trend.

Oh wait...

Do some research if you're truly looking for more great DS non-"non-games." There are plenty.

Or, just use the foam sleeve it came in. No scratches, no arts-and-crafts.

Trauma Center. Promote weird game ideas! Animal Crossing as well, especially for family.

Also, maybe an import list? I'd suggest Ouendan, Jump Superstars and Daigasso! Band Brothers.

Yeah, I really like them, especially with the thumb strap. But I'm willing to allow that other people will disagree.
