Final Fantasy XIV launches patch 1.18

Jul 22nd 2011 8:22PM (Massively)
Grabbing quests, running to a place you haven't been before and running into an unexpected camp on the way, getting an invite from your linkshell to take part in a raid, this is the kind of stuff which will bring the game up to the level it should be at.

Also, the new content has cut scenes, which is pretty nice.

I've already completed all of the quests but I expect i'll be logging back on to do raids quite often. Also the new battle system is much less button-mashy. Also, repairs are now so convenient that it takes no longer than 2 minutes usually to find somebody to repair your stuff. All in all, an amazing update!

Picture Lives is E3's weirdest game

Is that Lives like "MY CREATION, HE LIVES!" or like "my creation will destroy the lives of many!"?

Big changes (and one bighorn beast) afoot in Final Fantasy XIV

I'm still playing, and I think it's getting much more fun. With the addition of quests, it feels a lot more meaty, and that probably wasn't TOO hard to implement. Once they've added the grand companies and the new job system, all the existing content should feel much better because it's not the only thing there. I'll keep playing this game until the end, I think, mainly because of my stupid fanboyism but also because I love what the newer dev team are doing.

I like DenebSwift's idea of a freemium expansion. Or maybe just do what Anarchy Online did after a few years, have the original game free, and charge a NOT MASSIVE amount a month for the first expansion (shadowlands). The only problem is, once you have the expansion, it's probably impossible to go back to completely free, but having a switch to turn the expansion on and off would be great in more ways than one.

I mean, if you'd quit the game and wanted to log in to see if you still liked it, you could, and then if you did still like it you could turn on your expansions again. That's the idea that's got my vote.

PSN 'welcome back program' includes a free download, 30 days free PlayStation Plus, Qriocity

May 1st 2011 6:44AM (Joystiq)
Well, I'm interested to try Qriocity to see how it compares to Spotify, so at the very least I'll get content for a comparison video.

It would be awesome if the free stuff came in credit form so I could put it towards Persona 3 Portable for my PSP Go.

But it'll probably just be a game I own already.

MotorStorm Apocalypse review: Crash test dummy

Apr 23rd 2011 8:31AM (Joystiq)
Multiplayer allows two PSN accounts to be signed in at once, locally, and play online. That's rare for a PS3 game. You should've mentioned that.

Also, colliding with the scenery is what happens when you're new to the game, you've gotta learn the track, the whole adrenaline rush comes from avoiding these obstacles in the track and the ones that are thrown at you. If it was smooth sailing what would be the point? Then you're just playing, I dunno, Ridge Racer?
