20 UPnP clients that may stream to your PlayStation 3

May 28th 2007 10:05PM (Joystiq)
Anyone else having trouble getting albums to play in the correct track order over a network? Even if I specifically make a playlist, the PS3 still doesn't play the tracks in order (yes, shuffle is definitely off). What's weird is that the track order is fine if I copy the album to the PS3 hard drive.

Special XBLM offer in the Matrix Collection [update 1]

@RoboJoel

I currently have 8 movies on Blu-ray and only one of them has the special features on a separate disc (the movie is in MPEG-2 for some stupid reason, so it's taking up way more space than an equivalent quality MPEG-4 version). With 50GB on a dual layer disc and really nice codecs available they have no trouble fitting a really good looking 1080P film with HD extras on a single disc.

Special XBLM offer in the Matrix Collection [update 1]

Why is the Blu-ray version being released after the HD-DVD version? They haven't even set a release date at this point. Seems odd that they would willingly alienate supporters of the current HD format leader.

I think the 360 is the best console of the current generation by far but my love for the 360 does not tie me to HD-DVD in any way. Blu-ray is winning the format war at the moment, and I'd be willing to bet money on Blu-ray maintaining its lead until HD-DVD is all but forgotten. If you separate the 360 from HD-DVD and look at the facts I'm sure you'll agree with me.

Dear David Dreger,

I noticed that you mention a fall release date, which prompted me to inform you of something I feel is quite important.

You may be surprised to hear that at any one point in time seasons are in fact different all over the globe! Another amazing piece of trivia is that the internet is available outside the US! Incredible!

Regards,
Mark

Even the names are unoriginal.

Public transportation and GTA: Vice City Stories

Boone may be a bit over the top, but he sure as hell didn't kill that kid and you have absolutely no business dragging that into this totally unrelated argument. Comparing these two seperate events is no different than Jack Thompson comparing us to the Columbine kids.

Update brick your 360? Speak up [update 1]

Nov 1st 2006 11:35PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I've had my 360 since launch. It isn't modded, I haven't moved it since day one, the power supply is well ventilated, the download wasn't interrupted. I've followed all the usual common-sense rules with expensive hardware. As soon as the update was finished, I tried 1080p to show a friend how my 1080i TV would handle it (black screen, of course). After it reverted to 1080i, I went to the arcade menu, and that's when it locked up with a pink checkerboard pattern. I turned the console off, and when I started it again I got the three dreaded red lights and no signal to the TV. It's very easy to dismiss this stuff when it's not you (hell, I've been doing it for months), but when it finally affects you your point of view quickly changes. All I can say is I'd better have a 360 in my lounge when Gears comes out.

Nintendo Wii: The Movie

Aug 30th 2006 5:11AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Hey Admiral, nice effort. I think you could use a bit of constructive criticism, so here it is:

- Slooow down. You sound like you're in a hurry. Especially make sure you clearly say each word.
- Choose fonts that are legible at low resolutions. Those scripts were hard to make out at times.
- Your Wiimote diagrams actually made it look really complicated. I'd recommend slowly easing the viewer into it step by step, rather than pointing to everything at once and naming it as fast as possible. Try to imagine that was your first glimpse of the Wiimote.
- Know your target audience. I'd argue that anyone who doesn't know what the Wii is right now doesn't know what GC stands for, and wouldn't care about HD support etc. Keep the details fairly light if you're trying to educate non-gamers.
- If you mess up, pause too long or stutter, do another take.
- Don't try to talk over music with lyrics unless the music is *really* quiet.

Keep making videos though, dude. The more you do it, the better you'll get.

The Twilight Zone: Negative Wii press

Jul 20th 2006 11:52PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I don't find it tiring after work to spend a couple of hours playing Guitar Hero. Assuming you're not playing like the models in the promo videos, why would the Wiimote be any more tiring than that?
