I can confirm that Activison subsidiary Vicarious Visions was playing with a DS motion widget of some sort about a year ago. Having lived with a former employee who was fairly excitable, it slipped out the same month as the On Tour keypad. Honestly, I've been really surprised by the lack of news regarding the add-on - accelerometers are kind of a solved technology, and the components should be easy enough to squeeze into a GBA-size cart.

This next bit is pure speculation on my part: Nintendo wants motion controls for the DS. They're clearly big on the technology, what with the Wii and now the lightsaber-enabling add-on for the Wiimote. It would be in their best interests to ensure that the first DS motion device on the market is done right and made available for other first- and third-party games. I think the long wait and radio silence have been carefully orchestrated for maximum PR leverage when this finally launches.

The new format is a mistake. Instead of scrolling through as usual and enjoying weekly webcomic wrapups as they come, I have to click through - which wouldn't be such a disjointed experience compared to before if you didn't also separate the links from the voting. This last part is terrible. It's enough that I have to re-open some of the links to remind myself of how the link relates to the subject line, now I have to play a matching game with the titles I ignore in the first place? Consider for a moment how much of your readership is borderline ADD while they're vegging out on your site.

The new WWW format detracts from usability, makes voting less intuitive, and feels like a MySpace-inspired ploy to increase raw page loads and push more ad content. I see no pros to balance against the cons. Kill it.

Imagine if someone changed their name to Atari Lynx sometime in 1990. Total fanboy, owned both kinds, armed with enough rhetoric to make even Game Boy owners go crying back to their piles of awesome games. Completely ignoring the fact that Atari Lynx is a much more believable and cool-sounding name than Microsoft Zune will ever be, how sad would this theoretical putz be today? 17 years of life as a failed also-ran product that kids don't know about. "Where is he now?" articles every five years, drifting slowly back into the deep recesses of the newspaper. Kids, should he manage to marry after making himself a walking commercial, made bitter by their undoubtedly equally ridiculous names (Improved Atari Lynx, New Atari Lynx, and New Atari Lynx II).

Pity this man, but quietly. He'll be going down as a footnote in Wiki-history as "that Zune whacko" - but at least he'll be remembered.

It's always possible to lower the bar, especially while Uwe Boll is still alive and greedy. For example: Hugh Laurie in a three-hour-long festival of slow-paced and long-cut scenes, dry-run dialog, and horrible digital backdrops... Anachronox, as directed by Kurt Wimmer.

I really hope that of Fire and Flames is the full album version and not the abridged music video cut. Glad to see Joystiq has its own blend of Dragonforce fans and detractors, either way.

Personally I would've preferred Flame of Youth or Black Winter Night... maybe some Rammstein, if they're laying on the power metal.
