Just to weigh in on this amusing thread (mainly because of the roomate bashing):
@114 1up_clock - brilliant! Objection... FTW!
@reguy and vidguy - you guys should rename to shyguy and flyguy.
And regarding the "faggy" comments - While some people might consider this "ok" casual langauge, it does reinforce a level of bigotry and is thus inappropriate. After college it becomes clear that this sort of thing is unacceptable...
Vlad, are you some sort of business major? What did you think of the recent Economist article on Nintendo?
And I have to agree with someone else...those "picture it" sections are painful - if I see the phrase "efficient frontier" in a joystiq article, I'll never come back here again.
A problem with the PSP is that it's losing steam while the DS is gaining momentum, so developers will slow down on making games for the "losing" (and more-expensive-to-develop-for) system.
Furthermore, the multi-function aspect of the PSP is nice for some people (the superuser/early adopter), but it will have trouble convincing a market that is saturated by ipods and other good (iRiver) mp3 players - especially considering the rumors that a true video ipod is hitting the market sometime soon. Personally, I own devices that are really good at one thing, otherwise there's too much compromise. The PSP's mishmash of features is only going to look more outdated with each passing day, while the DS has only one purpose...
To be fair, I have to admit that I am extraordinarily surprised with the success of the DS. I'm a nintendo fanboy (could you guess?) but I haven't been blown away by the games I have for the DS. I'm really excited about a lot of stuff coming in September (Square Enix support galore!)... well, maybe I'm just getting old.
Anyway, this holiday should be interesting as the consoles jump into the limelight. Sony says "Hey look, connect your PSP to your PS3!" But who has enough money to get both of those systems? Heh, it was hard enough convincing enough of my college roomates to get gameboys to make FF:CC worthwhile. Dollars to donuts says I'm the only person excited about the DS version. If the Wii makes a big splash, though, will there be a halo effect for the DS? Or vice-versa? Think of the iPod - macbook relationship. If there's clean interplay between the Wii and the DS, and if the Wii is cheap enough, expect some self-reinforcing sales!
@17 "CEO (Chief Everything Officer)"? What? Did you mean Chief Executive Officer, or was that a joke?
