Dear Aunt TUAW: Will Lion ship on disc?
May 20th 2011 8:18PM (TUAW.com)Enforcing order on English usually doesn't work once the public gets ahold of it (trolley, tram, streetcar, and light rail are similar victims).

Apr 9th 2011 6:09PM (Autoblog)You don't know what "a la" means in this context. My statement didn't mean to USE the Northstar, but to have an engine that is technically complex and uses current technology, like the Northstar was when it debuted.
What GM needs is a clean-sheet design like that, using newer technology. Although the LS series are clean-sheet designs (meaning normal small block Chevy parts don't fit), it is still has the same design ideology.
"There is a reason that on engine swaps people buy LS3 and LS7 crate engines and not LC3s."
Yeah, and those don't have to do with the technology used in the base design of the engine, it has to do with how much power comes out the back for how little cost. At the time, 300hp out of 4.5L was pretty decent. The LT engine of the same vintage produced 300hp out of 5.7L, and the first LS engines were around 350hp out of 5.7L. A Mercedes M119 of the time (DOHC) also produced around 320hp out of 5.0L, so the Northstar was quite respectable.
My main computer, 2004 versus 2011
Apr 9th 2011 2:38PM (TUAW.com)When my iPad took a dump, I had to wait until it was home to talk with daddy (my iMac) to fix it up. Never figured out what caused it, and my iPad wasn't jailbroken.
Not that I don't use my iPad and iPad 2 a lot. To me, it's the "able to run tools to fix itself" is an important measure of whether it is a "computer" or not, and by that metric, the iPad isn't a full-fledged computer.
For many people that might not be an issue, but as a developer, I usually solve my own computer problems.
Not trying to belittle your point, the iPad is still a huge leap in technology.

Apr 9th 2011 2:23PM (Autoblog)Also, I would love to see a higher-technology engine (a la Northstar) used as a basis for the V-models rather than a pushrod small block Chevy. Nothing wrong with those engines, but again, it's about trying to boost the Cadillac image.
