Penny Arcade doles out criticism of Assassin's Creed criticism

Nov 17th 2007 12:02AM (Joystiq)
so......great works of art like the Sistine Chapel that fail to draw people away from their busy lives makes it crappy art then? I guess n00bs like Shakespeare, Kafka and Faulkner shouldn't have bothered writing then since their works just can't get average Joe to read past two hours. Maybe Assassin's Creed just isn't for you. But that doesn't detract from the fact that Assassin's Creed is pretty good and worth the money. I liked it better than Bioshock. /commence flame darts.

@hotnutz "Everyone is entitled to their view. Heck, the US population fell for the whole Iraq war thing - what makes you think they would see through the crap that the Xbox 360 is? Can you really fault people for being dumb? Remember, these are the people who voted for George Bush a SECOND time. haha"

what the hell is wrong with you? Your post is all over the place from xbox to the u.s. citizens. Take your bitter tirade somewhere else.

Reuters: Sony in talks to sell chip manufacturing to Toshiba

all this talk of streamlining operations is making me hot and bothered. seriously though, everyone here has mostly said reasonable comments on the cost savings from this possible decision by Sony.

Reuters: Sony in talks to sell chip manufacturing to Toshiba

Business isn't that great of a mystery if you actually follow logical reasoning. People here so far have brought up valid points. What's business but a series of negotiations and making sure costs are less than future cash streams? :-)

Halo 3 expected to make $200 million

Sep 14th 2007 2:16PM (Joystiq Xbox)
"the legendary edition is not going to be the primary sku by any stretch of the imagination - hence the change should not be material to the overall numbers." Look, the fact you used the term "material" makes me think you're an accounting guy. I'm an accounting guy. But we can't ignore the "Finance" guys who say that the Legendary and Limited at $139 and $70 a pop do make a huge difference in the pricing and revenue scheme. And it does make a huge difference from the "Finance" perspective.

"I have bomberman and I want to finish my online achievements, cant do that cuz there's no one bloody playing the game."

Maybe you're just playing at the wrong time. There is no one really online for Bomberman til 6pm CST.

Rumor: New 40GB PS3 at $399.99 for the holidays

Sep 10th 2007 11:58AM (Joystiq Playstation)
#24...."How many old ass ps1 games are you trying to play on your shiny new ps3?" Final Fantasy VII looks great on the PS3. I'm glad I grabbed the EE 60GB. And to our UK person with the non EE 60GB, all the American 60 GB PS3s have the EE chip. Sony didn't give the PAL PS3s any EE chips for the 60GB.

Sony sends out 'Lair Reviewer's Guide' -- Must. Not. Laugh.

Sep 7th 2007 10:10PM (Joystiq)
"If you guys want to know why gaming press doesn't get much respect in the journalism world it's because of posts like this." And how would you know? That is the whole point of art criticism. You don't send out a reviewer guide for your specific work to literary critics, film critics or art historians. Art historians review art using established theories or well reasoned assertions. The same process takes place for film studies and literary theory. The fact that the "author" of the work is trying to impose his/her own interpretations upon reviewers is entirely laughable and a slap in the face to the reviewer's craft.
