'Twister' POV-Style Movie On The Way?
Aug 8th 2010 9:11PM (Cinematical)As for this film, if the "force greater than Mother Nature" turns out be something otherworldly as the author suggests, count me in. I'm a bit apprehensive just because I don't know how they'd make a potential Sci-fi element work along with a massive tornado (seems like one or the other should be taking center stage in a film like this), but if it turns out to be anything even remotely alien abduction-y, I'm listening.
What's (Really) Wrong with This 'Yogi Bear' Poster?

Who Is M. Night Shyamalan's 'Devil'?
Aug 1st 2010 2:52PM (Cinematical)Now one of those commenters happens to be a movie blogger as well.
And damn, this was kind of a long article for a movie that you clearly already disliked and for a director who you clearly think is a hack.
A hack who began to show his true colors all the way back during "The Sixth Sense" huh? Cool story, bro.
Michael Bay to Deliver Yet Another Alien Movie
Jul 28th 2010 8:37PM (Cinematical)Michael Bay to Deliver Yet Another Alien Movie
Jul 28th 2010 8:35PM (Cinematical)Give me something along the lines of "Communion," or the ideas that "The Fourth Kind" played around with (not the whole re-enactment bit). Something like what the "Mothman Prophecies" tried to do. Something SCARY. That's the type of alien film that we need more of and while I didn't particularly like Platinum Dunes' "Friday the 13th" remake, it wasn't a poorly made film, and I'm all for alien abduction stories.
This could be good.
Oh, I'll admit that I didn't read all the way to the end of the article but I noticed your comments about the "The Fourth Kind minus the 'this is real' shtick," and I, obviously agree wholeheartedly. That's what we need more of. Though I didn't think Paranormal Activity was that great at all.

M. Night Shyamalan: The End is Near (for His Career)
Jul 4th 2010 4:59PM (Cinematical)It's weird that there's so much made of a guy that so many people clearly see as a hack. I, personally, am a fan of his and while I thought that The Happening was pretty poor (but he did say that he wanted it to pretty much be a B-movie), I didn't HATE "The Village" or "Lady in the Water" as much as other people did. As for The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs, every film has its problems, but I can't see how anyone can see those movies as anything other than quality films. The Sixth Sense would probably be his crowning achievement, but, and maybe this is because of my fascination with the alien invasion/abduction genre, I thought Signs was awesome.
It's just that you see shit like My Bloody Valentine 3d, and the endless sequels to Final Destination, Prom Night remakes, the raping of the Freddy and Halloween franchises, and there seems to be more outrage about M. Night's fall from grace.
If anything, I don't take him, or his career, seriously enough to consider this a talking point. I also don't see some gradual decline from The Sixth Sense to Airbender. It was three really good movies in The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs. Followed by some weird ones (with some very effective scenes, mind you) that I probably wouldn't watch again but kept me interested until the end. And then there's The Happening and Airbender (which I haven't seen). The "twist" in The Happening was pretty shitty, I'll admit, but that doesn't really take away from how creepy the rest of the film was. Now I'm just looking for him to get back on form, which I think is entirely possible as he's only really made, in my estimation, 2 films of questionable quality.
Maybe too much of a fan, or perhaps I'm something of an apologist but if Uwe Boll can keep making this direct-to-DVD trash, and the other slasher flicks and shitty rom-coms can keep getting made, I see no reason why M. Night's career has to be over. It's just weird that in the wake of Airbender there's been all of this energy put towards this re-evaluation of a relatively young career and a signalling of the end of it as well.
SFS Movie Club Discussion: Signs
Jun 30th 2010 3:40PM (Scifi Squad)This didn't scare quite as much as "Fire in the Sky" did, mainly due to the fact that I was around 9 when I saw it, but this is right there and it's definitely a better movie overall.
Best alien invasion movie that I think I've ever seen and although M. Night probably won't go back to this subject, I hope that we get another alien-themed film like this from someone good in the near future.
AVP Producer to Fund a New 'Martian Chronicles' Adaptation
Jun 26th 2010 10:48PM (Cinematical)With the second I just wanted to see what would happen when the aliens finally got to Earth. I don't like using the "turn your brain off and have fun" argument, but that's kind of what I did in this case. I'm not as invested in the property as others though so maybe it was a bit easier for me to do that.
As for I, Robot, I thoroughly enjoyed that one so I'm not sure that I can say that I agree with this sentiment. So long as he doesn't take what appears to be a series held in very high regard (I'm about to grab it from Amazon), and give it the same treatment that he gave the AvP movies. We might be in good shape.
Didn't know much about The Martian Chronicles before checking it out after seeing this article but it sounds like it's right up my alley. My most recent sci-fi reading has been largely comprised of cyberpunk (Richard K. Morgan; and this was about a year ago) but that cover of one of the paperback editions gave me a real Frank Frazetta vibe and made me think about two of the weirdest, but most awesome sci-fi/fantasy-themed animated movies that I've ever seen in Light years and Fantastic Planet as well. Sure it's only a cover, but it'll help me let my imagination go nuts.
Twisted Metal crashes onto PS3 in 2011
Jun 16th 2010 12:54AM (Joystiq)They aren't. But someone will tell you that it's an early build (which it probably is). Though they did feel that it was good enough to show off.
I also don't know how I feel about helicopters.
And that stupid missile objective-based mode was not impressive.
It really doesn't look or feel like the old Twisted Metal, especially with these damn snipers in the cars.
I guess I'll reserve judgment until I get a chance to see more and/or rent it, but I didn't get the OMG! reaction that I thought I would.
