Joyswag: Call of Booty: Prestige Edition

Nov 12th 2009 4:46PM (Joystiq)
Apologies, but this is long. My grandmother's house is in a secluded area in the southern part of India, and in that area, you'd hear stories about ghosts and whatnot, but I'd never take it seriously. Last year, I was over there while prepping for my brother's wedding, and the area around where we live happens to be where they placed a new international airport, so getting there is easy. Unfortunately, the international flights happen that come in only occur during the wee-hours of the morning. My family had gone to the airport that night to pick up some of my extended family who had been flying in from Africa, and we had to take two separate cars.

Unfortunately, the flight had been rerouted to another airport and they wouldn't be coming in until the next day, so we sent one of the cars that was going to carry the luggage the rest of the family back to the house, while we (my mother, brother, my uncle who was driving and myself) hung around to see if there were any 24 hour all you can eat restaurants. Couldn't find anything, so we were about to head back when my uncle got a phone call from the driver of the first car saying, “Be careful, on the road back there's a ghost! ”

Now, when my uncle told us this, the rest of us laughed and basically summed it up the driver seeing a drunk guy walking along the road. My uncle however always loved the chance to see something potentially spooky and decided to drive along the road where it was spotted. We were all laughing and talking along the way back home, while my uncle was trying to find a ghost, over the objections of my mother. Now, keep in mind, the road's not paved, so it's really bumpy, there are no streetlights so the car's the only source of light so it's dark as fuck, and in terms of vegetation, it's like a jungle where we live.

As we were driving along, my uncle noticed something and slowed down the car. We could make out faint outline of someone in the darkness. We drove closer to it and because the road had so many potholes it was hard to get a good look at what we were looking at. Eventually we got close enough to see that it was a person, but they weren't really walking, more like stumbling or dragging their feet while trying to run. By then I could tell it was a woman. My uncle, over the objections of my mother, who was really scared by this point, drove up beside the person, rolled down the window, and said something our local language which I didn't understand.

I shit you not, even in the darkness I could see the her bulging eyes as she snapped her neck towards us (in a very zombie-like manner) and came towards the car with my uncle's head out the window, with her arms stretched out, as she made a sort of screaming noise at us.

My uncle, on instinct hit the gas and we made a fast break while we rest of us were freaking out. Yes, her sudden rush at us was that scary. Not even 5 seconds later, he stopped the car and got out and ran to her. It turns out the “ghost” was a lady who lived in a house nearby and had suffered some sort of nervous breakdown, left her house in a state of confusion, and had been wandering in the darkness looking for her husband (even though he was in the same house). Soon after other villagers who had heard her screaming came out and eventually the husband came on his motorcycle, and took her home. Good thing my uncle had common sense because I would have just drove and not looked back.

Happy ending I guess, but I still almost pooped in my pants.

I've always pondered buying this for my brother since he's a big fan of Simcity, but was waiting until it was on sale. I guess this is the next best thing!

Joyswag: Rare Alan Wake goodies from E3 [update]

I had a recent nightmare that my little cousin died. it's the second time that I've had a nightmare about someone I associate with dying recently. It sorta worries me, to be honest.

May 6th 2009 11:01PM (Joystiq)
the 3d Realms forums are getting pounded right now, but I managed to catch a post by Joe Siegler saying and i quote:

"It's not a marketing thing. It's true. I have nothing further to say at this time. "

Man, I'm going to miss 3d Realms.

Joyswag: Resident Evil 5 Red Xbox 360 Elite Bundle

You shouldn't have to hold up your pants with one hand in your pocket while walking because you lost just enough weight to nullify any effect your belt had in the constant struggle to keep your pants from falling down in front of everyone while at the mall.

Protip: If you have your hand in your pocket trying to keep your pants from falling, make sure you use the hand you don't normally use.. say for writing.

Protip 2: Don't stand too close too women, because apparently they think you're doing something else while standing next to them.

Sigh.
