Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)

Nov 20th 2009 3:26PM (Joystiq)
I don't know about the 360 version, but last year I was able to get L4D off of Steam for half price as part of their post-Christmas/New Year's sale. I'm hoping they do it again.

Left 4 Dead 2 demo pre-loading available, madness to follow soon after

Oct 24th 2009 3:03PM (Joystiq)
Any word on whether or not they're planning to offer pre-downloading for the public release of the demo on Nov 3?

Dante's Inferno draws fire for baby murder Achievement

Oct 23rd 2009 11:09AM (Joystiq)
First of all it's utterly ridiculous for the IRA to be concerned that they are somehow implicated by this game using the word 'nanny' in its achievement title. People who assume this is somehow related to this company's moronic marketing campaign are probably correct.

Second of all, seeing how many people jump at the chance of defending a game that features killing unbaptized babies in Hell (or Purgatory if the developers at least tried to be that accurate) is disheartening. I'd like to think we can hold ourselves up to at least some standard of cultural refinement as gamers. Just because you make them look demonic and say they're bent on destruction doesn't make the prospect of killing unbaptized babies any less tasteless.

I am neither Christian nor religious but the way this game thoughtlessly plunders source material for the sake of a masturbatory God of War knock-off cash-grab does offend me. You know what? Fuck it. I am officially protesting this game too. I am protesting it until I see some gameplay that leads me to believe this whole project is anything more than another sensationalistic pimple on the ass that is our culture.

GameStop reveals minimum specs for Modern Warfare 2 PC [update]

Wow, my computer could actually just barely handle this. The question then is, will its performance on my old single core actually be what you would deem playable.

Not everyone's happy about Ubisoft Toronto

Jul 13th 2009 12:53PM (Joystiq)
As has already been pointed out by a few people, this columnists argument is pretty flimsy. He is raising hell over the provincial government spending money we don't have, when what Ubisoft is actually receiving are tax credits that will be spread out over a ten year span. The money Ontario loses from these tax credits won't even be close to the positive impact this will have on the economy. I'm sure there are just as many loud mouthed reactionaries in Toronto as there are in most other places in the world (maybe a few more than average). It's usually best to ignore them.

Christian bloggers protesting fake EA protest

Jun 14th 2009 1:57PM (Joystiq)
It's not often that I find myself saying this, but I have to give this one to the Christians. This whole thing just reminds me of something Acclaim would have tried.

Cyanide acquires game rights to George R. R. Martin's 'Song of Ice and Fire' series

May 12th 2009 11:55PM (Joystiq)
I remember playing Dynasty Warriors 3 with my friends years ago and saying, "Boy, how cool would this be if it were based in Song of Ice and Fire and you could be The Mountain who Rides or Jon Snow or Jaime and you could fight battles like defending the Wall or the naval battle for King's Landing".

Of course, now I find myself thinking "Boy, I hope they don't make a shitty Dynasty Warriors clone like with Gundam". I guess that's just what time does to an idea.

MadWorld places relationship between online hype and actual sales in doubt

Apr 29th 2009 9:13PM (Joystiq)
I agree in part that games like MadWorld have trouble finding an audience on the Wii because they aren't kid friendly. But along with the argument that the game is too mature I would like to suggest that it also suffers from not being mature enough.

Case in point, I'm a slightly older Wii owner who still considers himself a gamer. I'm planning to get Conduit and would totally get China Wars if I owned a DS. But there's no way I would pay good money for a game like MadWorld. I've reached a point where sensationalistic violence and corny humour have lost their appeal. As interesting as the art style. I think one of the reasons for MadWorld's failure is that it's aiming at a very concentrated but small age group: late teens to early-mid twenties. And yes, most people in that age group probably prefer their 360/PS3. But don't discount 'mature games' on the Wii altogether based on this one example and please don't define 'mature' based on a game whose premise is "you have a chainsaw and you kill guys lots of ways".

NintendoWare Weekly: Dr. Mario Express, Deep Psyche, Crystal Defenders, and Wonder Boy

Apr 20th 2009 11:25AM (Joystiq)
Wow, Blast Corps. I haven't thought about that game is years. I remember getting a lot of play out of that one. They probably have that slotted for release on the VC sometime in 2019. Wonder if it's still sitting in my parents' basement.

Joyswag: Nintendo DSi, Rhythm Heaven & accessories [update]

I would show it to my first generation GBA so that it can finally understand what 'backlit' means.
