That's cool, glad to see that AoE III is now avaiable on-line. I'm still wary of buying anything from their service though. I mean, GFWL is only supported in 26 countries. What the hell Microsoft? We get fully localized Windows and game releases here, yet if I put my real country under my Live account I can't play on-line (and if you register your game cd-key under an unsupported country account, it's wasted forever). I'm not even sure I can even buy anything from them, since my registered address obviously won't match my credit card address (if anyone in the same situation has tried, I'd love to hear the results).
Indeed there's a huge gap in price between console and PC games here. Last year I bought a legit PC copy of Call of Duty 4 on a big retail store for R$50, which was around $25 back then. It even had the instruction manual in portuguese. The same game on a console still goes for over R$180.
Sadly, not every game gets a brazilian release, but Steam is a really good alternative, especially with their crazy sales.
I've read both the UOL article and the original senate text and I don't see any mention of "violence" in neither. The project is seeking to ban "offensive" games, such as games that contain racism or any sort of prejudice towards a culture, religion or creed.
I don't know where the mention of violent games came from, but it clearly isn't in the brazilian article nor the text in the senate website: http://legis.senado.gov.br/mate-pdf/8295.pdf
@Harry: Still, every game room can only hold up to 4 players. And each room is absolutely separate from all the other rooms. If we consider each room to be a "server", then it hardly fits the "massive" criteria. In an MMO, I expect to have hundreds, if not thousands of players in one server, and their actions affecting everyone one else playing on the same server.
I really don't feel that Borderlands qualifies as an MMO. In it, your character is simply a save file in your PC, since there are no servers. The games are hosted by users, and as such, you can't meet other people around the game world. Even a game like Guild Wars allows you to meet up with people and form a group in the many city hubs they have. Borderlands also doesn't really have an economy, as the only way to trade items with other players is if you are in the same game as them. To me, it's simply a co-op RPG in the same way as Diablo, Sacred and Titan Quest.
I really enjoy those types of games, it's a shame there aren't more of them. The recently released Torchlight is awesome, but sadly doesn't feature online play.
The beta was absolutely unplayable for me unless I used a proxy server located in the west coast. I don't think the problem is so much the extra distance, but rather, the route the connection takes going from my country to the US East Coast.
Well, tennis IS a hard game, some sort of learning curve should be expected. With accurate and responsive controls they can require more precision from the player, which can only make those down-the-line winners more gratifing when you manage to get a perfect shot in.
