Jul 13th 2009 3:30PM (Engadget)
i almost caved in and got one of these trackpad keyboards for my HTPC when I discovered the Air Mouse app for the iphone, which accomplishes the same task for about 2% of the cost

Disney Netpal hands-on (with video!)

to hell with the haters, this is great, if i had a young child i'd definitely be getting them one of these. stylish design, nice OS touches and without the usual inflated Disney price.. seems like a winner.

iPhone dev says AppStore is over-hyped

Jun 8th 2009 11:43PM (Joystiq)
the real question is how many hours did he spend developing the app..

$20/day sounds pretty damn good to me.. $600/mo for something a student could easily develop.. ppl in the one-quarter stanford course made several hundred dollars off their final projects (~2 wks dev) and they're still selling..

i really think this guy is just trying to deter prospective competition from the lucrative market.

Spintronics magic appears again, aims to vastly accelerate data storage and retrieval

(a) This isn't engineers talking about a product they're working on, it's physicists talking about potential applications for their basic research.

(b) Even if it were engineers, it's an entirely separate field (photonics) from traditional electrical engineering and comparing the two would be like saying "why work on electric vehicles when it's just going to take focus away from perfecting combustion engines?"

Text Message Character Limit Based on 1985 Formula

May 12th 2009 1:44AM (Asylum)
Twitter didn't do 140 'cause they felt it was a great length (though they like it), they did 140 because they wanted to allow SMS updates and allow enough space in the message for the username.

Missouri School of Journalism's iPhone "requirement" a clever interpretation of financial aid rules

May 10th 2009 5:14PM (Engadget)
there's an enormous difference between having an affiliate and including it as a requirement (e.g. cheating financial aid systems).

financial aid is finite. limited. now, every student at missouri's j-school filling out FAFSA will be getting more aid than they actually need, which is less aid to go to those who actually DO need it for tuition and such. it's cheating. by including it as a requirement -- and going so far as to admit they only list it as a requirement so that students get aid for it -- they're openly gaming the system. it's unethical. federal taxpayer dollars are buying missouri kids iphones instead of paying for real students' tuition.

Missouri School of Journalism's iPhone "requirement" a clever interpretation of financial aid rules

that should be illegal (if it isn't)..

F "Missouri School of Journalism".. because of their artificially inflated financial need, students that actually *need* the funds at other schools are getting a boned.

federal funds for higher education are limited. every dollar they get that they didn't need is a dollar less that can go to people who need it. i hope they're penalized for trying to get more than their fair share of federal funding (e.g. are given LESS funding).

really pisses me off, and i'm disappointed that engadget didn't mention this (important) angle. stuff like this only gets rectified after media attention. shine the negative spotlight on them.

Terrible post, Miller. Awful.

Write properly. Engadget pays, doesn't it? Isn't this a job of yours? And for that matter, doesn't an editor proofread posts?

Engadget's gonna lose readers if stuff like this is allowed to pass...

Sprint holding Pre "launch lunch" on June 5?

@Andrew: What do you mean can't do that with the 3G iPhone? Why not?
