Rise and Shiny: A bit of Wakfu, a smidge of Spiral Knights, and some Lime Odyssey

Mar 4th 2012 1:18PM (Massively)
@mael

Same here.

I'm having a hard time deciding on a main character, though. So far, the three classes I've enjoyed the most are: Fire Sacrier, Air Iop and Earth Pandawa.

One thing remains certain, there's no shortage of awesome melee classes in this game...

Free for All: How I'm preparing for the release of Wakfu

@Everfaust

It's a shame that you don't like the game, clearly it's not the right fit for you. But that's life, I suppose. Can't please everyone.

I, for one, love it. It obviously doesn't have as much as content as Dofus but what little it has, I find great.

This is very much an old-school game at its core.
They give you some animals to kill (or breed), some places to explore, some skills to level, some pets to take care of, some stuff to gather and craft, a small house to decorate and then send you on your way. That's pretty much all there is to it.

It takes me back to my Ultima Online days, to be honest. Right down to the "ganking" part (except I don't actually drop stuff in Wakfu).

You know, players making their own fun, like it used to be before the "Rise of the Theme-park." Some people still crave that...

They're offering discounts on all subscriptions until March 31st.

You won't get the pioneer title (pre-order exclusive), but you can still get the pets, the armor sets and the candy.

Oh, my download just finished... see ya in the World of Twelve!

@Neverwinter

You have every right to feel cheated, especially since what they told us the game would be and what the game actually is, are two completely different things.

I, personally, only felt cheated when it came to the engine's overall performance.
When my PC blows a title's recommended requirements right out of the water, I normally expect more than 5 to 10 FPS, with only two or three full groups on-screen.

As for the rest... I really didn't find the game particularly bad. Granted, I didn't find it particularly good either, but it's no Cataclysm.
It's just "more of the same" in a slightly less polished package, I guess.

All that said though, at the end of the day, I still don't (fully) regret my decision to purchase the game.
It would have been catastrophic to the future of this genre for SWTOR to simply flop, right out of the gate, so I feel like I've done my share to keep any prospective investors interested.

HeroEngine licensing takes off thanks to SWTOR's success

This is definitely bad news for me. Performance issues were perhaps the single biggest issue I had with SWTOR.
So much so that I ended up leaving before my "free month" was up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that game is around and contributing to the growth of this genre, but please, don't make me go through this "5 FPS ordeal" again...

I have to admit, that does sound pretty awesome. Would give a whole new meaning to the "can I have your stuff?" quip, for sure.

That cannon needs a lot of work...

Right now, judging by the their firing pattern, they look more like mortars than actual cannon.
That would be fine if those were bomb ketches, or something, but they look more like regular frigates armed with long guns, to me.

It just looks... odd.

League of Legends reveals Nautilus, announces Sona nerf

Here's the main issue with this patch, as well as several other recent ones, as I perceive it: RIOT wants, above all else, to obliterate the current metagame.

That's fine, I suppose. It's their game after all, and if they're not happy with it, they are free to change it as they please (at their own peril, of course, but that's a discussion for another day).

The problem comes from the fact that the community, as a whole, seems unwilling to change the one formula they have grown so deeply accustomed to: the 1-1-2+Jungler tactic, with a bottom lane formed by a null/extremely low-farm support, "feeding" and protecting his/her ranged ad carry (the team's "quarterback", if you will).

So, what's happening right now, is that a lot of support players are simply giving up on the game altogether. And with good reason. They feel unappreciated. Almost obsolete, even.

RIOT certainly doesn't want to release any support characters that actually fit the current metagame, so they keep releasing AP carries (you know, those guys who always shout "ME MID!" during champion selection) disguised as actual support champions.

Meanwhile, they keep nerfing the very few pure supports already in the game.
They do this by 1. great reducing their sustainability and 2. reducing the overall effectiveness of their kit without items, in an attempt to force them to farm, in order to scale well into mid/late game (like everyone else, to be perfectly honest).

In theory, I have to admit, it all sounds like a great idea. More people would play the support role if they could actually take some minions for themselves. It would make the whole affair far more entertaining, for sure.

The problem comes from the fact that, any support player (and I consider myself one) currently trying to take "creeps" away from his carry will get insulted, ignored, left to die ("you take farm, I AFK now!") and quite possibly reported -- not that the Tribunal would punish someone for that, but still, it's never a good thing to see your own name in there, next to the actual griefers.

But I guess my point is this: if they're going to "transform" the support champions into something else entirely, they need to do it in one fell swoop!
As it stands, we're forced to suffer slowly, while our role is gradually phased out. At least until the metagame finally shifts, once all the champions have been turned into bruisers, nukers and carries...
