Pachter: PlayStation software sales will account for 31% of all games sold worldwide in 2009

Jul 1st 2009 7:06AM (Joystiq)
For reference, Nintendo currently has 57%, Sony has 25%, and Microsoft has 18% of worldwide game sales in 2009 so far. This means that Pachter expects Sony to gain 6% of worldwide game sales from its competitors during the second half of the year.

Unless Sony sells 20 million of the new PSPs before the end of the year, I don't think it will happen.

Just in case, they can use Nintendo's new "Vitality Sensor" to check to see if he's still alive.

Seen@E3: Infinity Ward accepts Call of Duty 4 Guinness record

How is this posible when Halo 3 had sold more copies than COD4 and is usually at the top of the LIVE Activity charts for Xbox 360 Live Titles? I think COD4 is a great game and their certificate is commendable for its milestone, but somewhere someone is not crunching numbers correctly, or that someone doesn't care.

Former GameSpot eds reunite at Gerstmann's Giant Bomb

Jun 6th 2008 5:52PM (Joystiq)
Vinny Caravella was the last great personality to hold down the fort for the HotSpot podcast. Sadly, many of the rest of them sound like nerdy reviewers that simply aren't very interesting. The HotSpot crew just doesn't sound like they flow well together either. It's unfortunate, but I think many listeners will be removing them from their iTunes subscriptions simply because their podcast pales in comparison to the Giant Bomb's. I did that just today.

The Giant Bomb podcast is now like an All-Star team of former HotSpot personalities. Comparing them to the the HotSpot crew is like comparing a fine-tuned well oiled machine to a cardboard box of incompatible bolt-on parts. Really, all they need is a guest appearance with Rich Gallup to be complete. Or maybe Razor Callahan and Paul Walker...

You too can buy Drake's gun from Uncharted

May 19th 2008 6:11PM (Joystiq)
What's cool about this gun, is that its a full metal gas blowback pistol that shoots full auto. That means that the metal slide will kick every time the trigger is pulled, and continuously fires if set to full auto. Because it is an airsoft gun, the clip will probably hold around 30 rounds, which is not bad, but the clip will empty in about 3 seconds on full auto.

Not only that, it sounds like the gun can take green gas or C02. I have a similar gun that uses green gas. Green gas bottles are not as easy to come by where I live, so I use propane. Because propane is smelly, the gun is best used outdoors. It looks like this gun can use CO2 though. That feature sounds attractive because CO2 is pretty much odorless and can be bought at Walmart for about 1 dollar per capsule, which should be good for about 100 rounds.

The price of this type of airsoft gun seems high though. You can easily find an all black "green gas" version of this gun for $100 with shipping included, or a semi-auto only version for $65 with shipping included. $170 before shipping for this gun is pricey, but at least it comes with a fancy case, wooden handle, CO2 compatibility, and is classified as Uncharted memorabilia, if you're into that.

I believe that all airsoft guns of this type are sold with a glued orange tip in the US for safety reasons, so I think the photo shown does not include the orange tip to keep it from looking tacky. At 320 fps, you should wear eye protection and not shoot this gun at people. Also, its best not to bring this gun out in public because if a cop sees you with it, you could get shot. For safety reasons, you should always treat these types of airsoft guns as if they were real firearms.

Nintendo teases two new Virtual Console consoles

Dec 19th 2007 7:09PM (Joystiq)
I don't know if they would choose the GB/GBC console on the Zelda series alone, but based on previous software sales, GB/GBC games would seem the most likely, not only because of the Zelda games, but because of the Pokemon and Super Mario Land series. The second most likely console would seem to be GameBoy Advance, again because of the Pokemon series, and maybe the Golden Sun series.

But although the Pokemon series has a large following, the issue with bringing it to VC arises with emulating the handhelds' connectivity online. One of the main features in Pokemon games is the ability to trade monsters with friends, but it would not seem likely that Nintendo would add online support to their legacy Pokemon GB/GBC/GBA games on the VC because of the conversion of system link to online connectivity emulation. Base on the current games available for VC and Wii, it seems more likely that Nintendo would decide to develop a new stand alone downloadable Pokemon game with online support for the Wii, and even more likely, a disc version with online support.

Other than that, the most likely console would seem to be SMS with the Alex Kidd series, and maybe the original Phantasy Star. If none of those get picked, I think a more likely choice in terms of download size and graphic fidelity would probably be Arcade games. But unlike XBLA, Virtual Console Arcade games would probably not support online play, but local 2 player co-op is not too bad. They already have Blue's Journey!

What's your DS top 5?

Jul 25th 2006 11:32PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Awesome! Maybe there should be a poll for the readers favorite games! Or maybe not... there are so many to choose from. Anyway, here are my choices:

1. New Super Mario Bros. - Even after you've beaten the game, you'll still have lots of multiplayer mini-games to master with your friends.

2. Animal Crosssing: Wild World - Although mainly the same game as the Gamecube version, DS to DS and WiFi play make this game much more addicting than the original. Play this game with friends.

3. Nintendogs - It's so much cooler than the Tamagotchi... not to mention more fun.

4. Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (Elite Beat Agents) -It's an addictive beat rhythmic gameplay that utilizes the stylus. The music and comic book style compliment the game's playful art style.

5. Feel the Magic XY/XX - If you like stylus minigames, this one is great. Warioware doesn't do it for me, but this one is pretty sweet.

If I were to recommend five DS games to anyone, these would be it. They're fun and easy to play on the go. My list may change when Zelda: Phantom Hourglass or Final Fantasy III is released.

Morons break stuff, gain fame

Jul 13th 2006 11:45PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Nah... those guys live in the Bay Area in California. They purchased their Core system at the Fry's Electronics on Brokaw in San Jose and tried returning it at Gamestop at the Great Mall in Milpitas. They're PS3 fanboys... What else would you expect from them? I worry for their parents since they'll probably get beat down when they get mugged for their $600 PS3s after camping out for them this Fall. They better bring their baseball bats with them.
