Report: Capcom sees 'no distinction' between on-disc and off-disc DLC

Apr 3rd 2012 6:33PM (Joystiq)
@DwayneW And even if it doesn't, you can always pick the game up cheap in a year or two for $19.99 or so. Either way, by waiting, you win.

Report: Capcom sees 'no distinction' between on-disc and off-disc DLC

@Draugdraugr

"2) I disagree, when that content is cut from the main game and held off, it was always going to get made, they just decided to milk it, because we've (gamers in general) proven to them that they can. If you want to drink the kool-aid that's fine, but for the rest of us, we're don't need to be happy about this."

This is a gigantic logical phallacy. You have no idea if this content was 'always going to be made'. That is an assumption, it is how you see it as an entitled gamer. The fact is, Capcom told you what was going to be included with the game when they sold it to you. if that's not enough, don't buy it, that's your decision to make as a consumer. It is Capcom's decision to make as a developer how much content to include with the complete game. If there was no such thing as DLC you think that the content would be made anyway and included for free as part of the game. I'm more cynical, and I think the content wouldn't be made at all. Content gets cut from games all the time due to development costs, DLC gives developers the chance to recoup those costs and deliver that content to the gamers that want to pay for them. We'll never know who was right, and there's no point wondering what coulda been.

@jerry420ificate Lol. Adding content to the game and asking you to pay for it is not 'removing content'. Your only objection seems to be that it is on the disk, but so what? It's not part of what Capcom agreed to sell you when they released the game. It's just a better delivery method for their DLC. You'd really be fine with it if it was day one DLC? Who cares what method Capcom chooses to deliver the content? Your hangup seems to be that if there was no such thing as DLC, you think Capcom would make this content and give it to you for free, including it with the rest of the game. I tend to take the more cynical approach and say they wouldn't make it at all. We'll never know who is right, so there's no point in wondering.

@8bitartist I think you just have trouble understanding them. Everyone else seems to understand it. This is actually a good analogy. Gamers seem to think they deserve everything that was made before the game came out, and I don't get that entitlement. Capcom already released the stuff that comes with the game, buy it or don't based on that. Making a distinction between content that is disk-locked or forcing you to download it on launch day is dumb. Why should I have to tie up my harddrive space if they can just include it on the disk? You'd really rather wait longer to get it, and use up more harddrive space?

Typical entitled gamers. Just because the DLC was made concurrently with the real game doesn't mean you should get it. Capcom told you what was included with the game before you bought it, if that wasn't enough, don't buy it. It's cheaper to develop both the DLC and the game concurrently. Also, I bet people with Arcade units and 20 gig harddrives appreciate the 40k download file.

When the first Hobbit movie comes out are you going to call the better business bureau and complain that you don't get to see the second movie for free also? I mean they were filmed at the same time! They are just holding out on you! Why not give you all of the movie at once, rather than charge you twice?

PS Vita software update 1.65 adjusts sleep timer

Apr 2nd 2012 10:40PM (Joystiq)
A very underwhelming list of updates. I don't need it to be easier for people to TALK IN ALL CAPS, also the fact that a 5 minute sleep mode wasn't enough for a gamer to find a wipeout mission is a little sad. I agree with Noctem, I'd like to see trophies on the PS3, and while I'm dreaming, let's bring back patched versions of Motorstorm and Hotshots Tennis and oh what the hey, how about PS1 compatability?

Devil May Cry HD Collection may be out now at your local brick-and-mortar

The idea of a streetdate is kind of stupid in general, but especially so for something like this. Oh no, somebody might play these....10 year old games.... early?

By the way, can these be downloaded piecemeal or are they forcing DMC2 on us?

Dragon's Crown has not been canceled

Mar 29th 2012 5:32PM (Joystiq)
@katssun Yeah, they canceled mine also, of course. I bet when it is back on their site our bargain $29.99 price that we had it preordered for will be gone...

@(Unverified) "you realize this is the UK we're talking about right? They have their own currency and legal system that im assuming you dont know much about. "

Hey, thanks for the contribution, guy. Very enlightening. How about I give you a math lesson? If company A has 0 Euros, and a judge finds that they violated the law and must pay x million Euros in damages, how many million Euros can they get from 0? I'll wait, feel free to take off you shoes if you run out of fingers while you do the math. I think you'll find that math is the same in any country.
