Github removes PS3 jailbreak files after Sony sends DMCA takedown notice
Feb 1st 2011 10:34AM (Joystiq)First one: You're right that online security != console security. However, MW2 does not rely on console security. It was getting hacked long before this. Breaking console security gave hackers the ability to make more and better hacks, but online security is ultimately the problem. PC and 360 versions also have tons of MW2 hacking.
Second one: None of the code distributed is illegal. The code is all original except for the keys. And keys are computer generated so they can not be copyrighted.
You're right about three and four though.
Github removes PS3 jailbreak files after Sony sends DMCA takedown notice
Jan 31st 2011 7:24PM (Joystiq)This is why I don't read Joystiq for tech news. Well, this, and the ignorant gamers who seek solace here.

Jan 20th 2011 6:18PM (Joystiq)PS3 hack court case delayed, jurisdiction questioned
Jan 17th 2011 9:27PM (Joystiq)The MW2 Hacking was going on long before this hack came about and is produced by people completely unrelated to Geohot and fail0verflow. Hacking a game's online play mode is not even close to being the same as console hacking. If its really that bad (which I highly doubt as I play myself and have only seen it once), complain to Activision to get more people with moderators ban hammers online.
Also, still waiting for someone to tell me why modifying hardware/software you purchased makes you a "douche". Seems more to me like: *fat a$$ examines geohot* *fat a$$ looks in mirror* *fat a$$ declares geohot a douche(tm)*
Hacker GeoHot claims release of PS3 root key
Jan 3rd 2011 3:27PM (Joystiq)How does that make any sense to you? Even if SONY does something to that effect and makes a second key for newer games it will still always be possible to run homebrew and Linux using the old key. SONY would just be wasting their time.
Hacker GeoHot claims release of PS3 root key
Jan 3rd 2011 1:32PM (Joystiq)Erm ... Do you know what a key is? The only way for SONY to fix it is to change the key. If SONY changes the key then all games released prior to this stop working. SONY is not going to change the key.
Hackers claim discovery of PS3 'private key,' enabling unauthorized code [Update]
Dec 29th 2010 6:11PM (Joystiq)You don't understand what a key is, do you? So I guess I can't also expect you to understand the concept that they decide what runs and what doesn't run on the PS3. They're putting Linux (AsbestOS) on the PS3 with the key, they don't have to put anything else on it if they don't want to. Everyone else must either decipher the key themselves or use the existing USB jailbreak devices to run their software (which includes piracy software unfortunately).

Dec 29th 2010 3:54PM (Joystiq)If you dont believe the hacks aren't designed purely to enable homebrew and run Linux, explain why the first hacks came about only a month after PS3 Slim was released without the ability to install OtherOS. Then explain to me how several months after removing OtherOS the "PS3 Hacking Scene" exploded.
