The inability to control party members in Fallout 1/2 was a bummer. Their AI was pretty unintelligent, causing them to enter your line of fire and melee attacks could send enemies sliding across the map for several seconds, making the battles just too long. And then, accidentally injuring your own NPC could turn them against you and waste half an hour or more of combat . -tour86rocker
@(Unverified) PS, how the heck do I get joystiq to stop displaying my name as (Unverified)? And stop it from asking every time I log in what I want my screen name to be, as if it's for the first time? I can't find a "customer service" (I -guess- I'm a customer?) link anywhere on the website.
I'm actually annoyed that my games HAVEN'T all been auto-added to Origin. (I think it's because I install almost everything to a drive other than C:). The absence of all but one of my EA games on Origin makes me uncertain that EA recognizes my right to own the games. Yay. Honestly, I wish Origin didn't exist; I don't need more clutter in the system and EA games are already a PAIN to install and activate. Certain purchases of Arkham City already use both Steam AND Microsoft's GFWL AT THE SAME TIME. Where does it end?
(After playing Wasteland for an hour and reading way too much of the manual and still finding it too impenetrable as a game ) I don't get it. I'm going to require a lot more information than I did from Tim Shafer if I'm going to Kickstart this project. Information about UI, how they'd handle inventory, battles, many things. Even just "we're going to make it like Fallout 1" would be nice.
I think a game should be like its source material though and I don't want to see the essential elements of a game stripped to broaden the audience. What gameplay elements of this game are vital?
I'm definitely interested in finding out more about this project. I haven't been able to get Wasteland to work. I'm a huge fan of Fallout 1&2.
PS, just noticed something very interesting: Michael A. Stackpole of the Star Wars: X-Wing series of books' fame worked on the original Wasteland game.
I wouldn't compare the sword-fighting to Tetris. I think both this and the original sailing puzzle are way more like Columns and the Bilging puzzle is obviously a Bejeweled clone where you switch pieces in a different direction.
The carpentry puzzle is great; I don't know what its inspiration is, other than a distant relation to Tetris (the pieces aren't tetriminoes...perhaps pentaminoes?) and this minigame has recently been copied in TLCo's Oregon Trail on Facebook.
I've really enjoyed my yearly Puzzle Pirates relapses since 2004 but there are some things that I'd guess they still haven't fixed in the last year. The communications bar needs to be way more prominent. Young players (and idiots of all ages) don't see important messages.
And finally, I've seen a problem with not enough players, every time I've ever subscribed or purchased doubloons. I've never been that great at navigating a sea battle so I rely on those who DO excel in it, and I often can't find a voyage when I want one. Related to this: I HATE waiting on a large ship for enough players to join a pillage. It is SO annoying and half the time the skipper eventually gives up after an hour and you have waited there for nothing.
