omfg who takes these pics? 5d mk2 at f2.8 semi telephoto and they miss the focus almost every time!!
seriously autoblog who is taking these pics... its arguable they dont know how to use their camera. the 5d mk2 takes some practice, it doesnt instantly make you a good photographer. *facepalm*
big tip would be to shoot at f5.6 or higher, a lot more forgiving with missing focus. second learn to use center point focus with AF lock.
ill take a GT500 plz. The only possible complaint is "well the gt500 interior sucks!!!"... none of these people have EVER sat in one. the gap between a gt500 interior and 1 series is nill.
well i hope people enjoy whatever sh(t they get. if you seriously think my advice is bad when youre auditioning a car stereo go ahead and make this mix cd in the original post. enjoy going "oh yeah that does sound good" because youre F*UCKING LISTENING INTENTLY on some song youve never heard. Youre the tools who love bose because they play it loud at some store with a lot of bass. Youre also the tools who fall for the placebo of monster cable.
Also Jim i am still unclear on what you do, do you work for some higher end company like dynaudio, B&O, burmester, B&W, lexicon, mark levinson?? if you dont then what decisions are you even making? "lets use this paper cone over this cardboard one.. they both sound like sh(t but one measures marginally better than the other". Ive heard a 2011 mustang gt BASE sound system, and a 2009 wrx sound system.. they are UTTER garbage. I cant believe someone was actually hired to make either. They sounded like my sisters 1994 mazda MPV.
"Cool so you do stuff that has NOTHING to do with an individual consumer testing an audio system from car to car? "
to clarify, since im sure this will be picked apart, what you do when testing speakers does not carry over at all to what a consumer does when testing speakers.
also let me re-iterate my original point, it is stupid to bring in a cd full of songs youve never heard to audition a set of speakers, in car or in home. There is no arguing this. If you happen to like and listen (the most important part) to the songs in matt kirschs list A LOT, then go ahead and use them. Ive never said theyre bad for testing purposes, im just saying dont use any song, UNLESS you know it well enough to understand why it sounds better on one system than the other. Ive laid out the point several times and theres really no use in trying to clarify it any further. Im just speaking from the experience of making the mistake of letting other people choosing reference songs for me in the past.
Cool so you do stuff that has NOTHING to do with an individual consumer testing an audio system from car to car?
You even admit it yourself "Bully for you. When I'm testing (and tuning) systems, I can't just stay with the music I like. What you do is fine, when it's just you buying your own speakers. "
The whole autoblog post is about a consumer buying a car stereo!!
again, you appear to be arguing my points "It doesn't matter if I *like* the particular piece of music, all that matters is that I'm very familiar with it and how it is supposed to sound on a reference setup."
EXACTLY, people are familiar with music they like, and thus thats the best reference for them, so they can notice every single improvement. You dont listen to lists of songs you arent familiar with because you dont know what to listen for... so youre agreeing with me? Hmm.
Also when did you start becoming an audiophile? I bought my monitor audio RS6s at 14 and now own av123 line array LS6s at 21... being powered by an XPA-3 and an onkyo 805. If you had $4500 invested in a single audio system at 21 ill be impressed, but i doubt you did.
and what is it that you do exactly??? ive been an audiophile for about 7 years now and i cant imagine going into a store to buy speakers with a list of songs someone ELSE chose (i did that 7 years ago.. its called going into the dealer and listening to their shi**y demo disc. Luckily the monitor audio silvers i brought home managed to sound good anyways.. and ive upgraded substantially from then).
If someone cares enough to test out car stereos then they already have a grip of songs they consider well mastered (ie the people who listen to the newest TI album at full blast with the bass turned up too hot dont tend to give a sh** about sound quality and will never do comparative listening anyways). If that person has a song that they know is well mastered and theyve listened to 100 times over on their OLD stereo, well theyll know exactly how much better it sounds on their new stereo wont they?? THAT is the best test.
It is not a test of a stereo if you listen to a song youve never heard before, because you have no idea how bad or good it sounds on yours. Period.
Also whenever you tell someone to listen for "chestiness" or some negative quality like that, they will always say they can hear chestiness in any speaker thats supposed to be crappy, and then if the speakers supposed to be great they will say they wont hear it. Just ask anyone who is convinced that $5000 cd players make a difference, and buy $1000 speaker cables/interconnects.
