Indie, but not alone: How Vlambeer's advice helped guide Dog Sled Saga

How much time are you getting out of your games?
Sep 25th 2006 6:29PM (Joystiq)But, I have to agree with NorCalSix.
Who the hell can't finish Tomb Raider: Legend in far more than 30 hours? I had a friend beat in under 8 while I was playing Civ IV on my PC.
Sounds like he needs to set it on Easy.

Sep 20th 2006 5:56PM (Joystiq)I think you're referring to the hacking adventure game that looks a lot like Phoenix Wright.
It's called "Project Hacker Kakusei".

I see your point, but an E-10+ rated game is not the place to make that stand. When the people who make M rated games stop being so squeamish on nudity, then you can expect that stuff to slide by more often.
Does Wii boxart capture Nintendo's new vision for gaming?
Sep 20th 2006 2:20PM (Joystiq)You can't really use that space in the upper left, so it's effectively dead.
It forces the game logo to the middle of the box or the bottom of it. This is going to be really annoying to cover designers who are working on a game that goes cross platform from the 360 or PS3 to the Wii.
EA to release Tony Hawk killer in 2007
Sep 19th 2006 2:51AM (Joystiq)I mean, they already released an SSX killer...unintentionally.
Wii: then and now
Sep 14th 2006 10:45PM (Joystiq)You've apprently forgotten how to read. Since all that news came out in a flurry yesterday, what Ludwig nicely did for the world is compiled all the stuff that has changed from what Nintendo had told us about the Wii up until yesterday.
Why don't they do this with Sony or Microsoft, you ask? They HAVE BEEN. But Sony and Microsoft haven't had huge press conferences where they change their stance on six different points in a day yet, so a compliation hasn't been needed. So you get little articles that report stuff like, "PS3 not including HD cables" and "Street Fighter II still not on Xbox Live Arcade".
This is called "making sure stuff doesn't slip through the cracks". This is called "keeping people abreast of the latest changes". This is also called REAL JOURNALISM. It's about time the game industry got more of it, and it's here to stay.
Sure, Ludwig gets a little snarky, because some of the points deserve it.
Nintendo took some hits after yesterday's press conference, because expectations were high, and because Nintendo changed their minds on some things. Don't try to rip on Joystiq for pointing those obvious facts out. It happened, it's history, and nothing you can do changes it. Accept the news and move on with your lives. Spin it however you want, but trying to brand a report of THINGS THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED as "bullshit" is pretty darn moronic.
Will you still buy the Wii or not? In the case of this article it doesn't matter, because it's completely besides the point. All Ludwig did was point out what is now different about the Wii. If you're going to get mad about that, you're probably the type of person that would launch into a tirade because someone simply mentioned the Wii's price to you.
Joystiq, Ludwig, keep it up. Don't let the vocal stupid minority dull your reporter's insticnts. The less like IGN you are, the better.

Sep 13th 2006 10:49PM (Joystiq)But yeah, the misunderstanding is becuase of my poor word choice...apologies.

An art project on playing with your food
Sep 13th 2006 10:20PM (Joystiq)If you want a copy of the poster, you should probably just take a picture of yourself holding some food, and Photoshop out the background.
As for Joystiq not saying anything about the press conference NOT happening right now...yeah...that's real un-professional of them not to have up to the minute comments on a hoax. For shame... :P
Fingers like butterflies, thumbs like bees
Sep 12th 2006 12:37AM (Joystiq)So, you're saying that this guy just made a video of himself not perfectly clearing one of the medium level difficulty songs?
That doesn't sound so impressive anymore. Maybe someone from the DJ Max Portable hardcore crowd will release a better video.
Enchanted Arms grabbing PS3
Sep 11th 2006 9:20PM (Joystiq)You have it all wrong. Read "Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered the World" (or the second printing, "Game Over: Press Start to Continue".
It's Nintendo who sells out Sony, not the other way around.
If you don't want to head to your library, just read an excerpt from Wikipedia's article on the Playstation:
"In 1991, the SNES-CD was to be announced at the June CES. However, when Hiroshi Yamauchi read the original 1988 contract between Sony and Nintendo, he realized that the earlier agreement essentially handed Sony complete control over any and all titles written on the SNESCD-ROM format. Yamauchi was furious; deeming the contract totally unacceptable, he secretly cancelled all plans for the joint Nintendo-Sony SNES CD attachment. Indeed, instead of announcing their partnership, at 9 am the day of the CES, Nintendo chairman Howard Lincoln stepped onto the stage and revealed that they were now allied with Philips, and were planning on abandoning all the previous work Nintendo and Sony had accomplished. Lincoln and Minoru Arakawa had (unbeknownst to Sony) flown to Philips headquarters in Europe and formed an alliance of a decidedly different nature—one that would give Nintendo total control over its licenses on Philips machines."
Or from the Wikipedia Nintendo 64 article:
"While Nintendo chose the cartridge format for the N64, the company originally signed a contract with Sony in 1988 to develop a CD-ROM drive add-on for the SNES. When Hiroshi Yamauchi read the (already signed by Nintendo) original 1988 contract between Sony and Nintendo and learned that it allowed Sony 25% of the profits from the machine and also a part of games' sales profits, he was furious. He deemed the contract totally unacceptable, and secretly cancelled all plans for a joint Nintendo-Sony SNES CD attachment. Indeed, instead of announcing their partnership, at 9 AM the day of the CES, Nintendo chairman Howard Lincoln stepped onto the stage and revealed that they were now allied with Philips, and were planning on abandoning all the previous work Nintendo and Sony had accomplished. Lincoln and Minoru Arakawa had (unbeknownst to Sony) flown to Philips headquarters in Europe and formed an alliance. In addition to the CD-ROM add on, Sony would release a combination Super NES/CD-ROM system in one unit, which would have been called the PlayStation. Initially, Nintendo's abandonment of the joint project caused Sony to consider halting their research, but ultimately the company decided to use what they had developed so far and make it into a complete, stand alone console. This led to Nintendo filing a lawsuit claiming breach of contract and attempted, in U.S. federal court, to obtain an injunction against the release of the PlayStation, on the grounds that Nintendo owned the name. The federal judge presiding over the case denied the injunction."
So, Nintendo signs a contract, then decides, "Hey! We don't like this!" and then bails on the contract. Sony doesn't backstab anyone. Don't rewrite history so your favorite company comes out the good guy. The facts of the case, as reported, show that Yamauchi is the one who did the betraying.
